Is my 21 mo bottom shuffler finally trying to walk?

Hi everyone

My 21 mo dd never attempted crawling and has been bum-shuffling (this runs in my family) for many months now with no signs whatsoever of trying to pull up etc, despite lots of praise whenever she stands up like a big girl etc etc.

Having moved up to her next stage room at nursery just this week, she's suddenly started to lurch herself forward from her usual semi-cross legged position and ends up looking like she's doing a spot of yoga! I have her home on thurs/fridays and have noticed she's doing this a lot.

I'd appreciate comments from any mums of current or past bum-shufflers as to whether this could be a "sign", as I'd like to help her if it is. We've tried allsorts to encourage her to get upright - she definately has the leg strength (she used to scoot about at great speed in a wheeled walker from about 6mo but we think that, in hindsight, rather than encourage her to walk this has probably held her back!). I'm wondering if seeing all her mobile new "colleagues" at nursery is spurring her on to try it herself. A pal who was in maternity class with me said she saw a marked difference in her own daughter when she made that transition to a new room, and I have to say my little one has gone a lot more lively even in the past few weeks while we've been training her up.

All comments appreciated!! I'd love to have her wobbling about outdoors this summer!

Thanks

My DS1 eventually walked at 23 months after bum shuffling for a few months. He started off trying to pull himself up at his toybox but not managing, so I sat on the floor with him on my knee and he managed to pull himself up from there, we then found that the tables at the local library were slightly lower than the toxbox and he could pull himself up at those, so we had a couple of weeks of going to the library everyday! He also goes to a nursery and they encouraged him by helping him to push a dolls pushchair around.

Nice to hear that it runs in someone elses family as well, it's my DH side that have got the bottom shuffling gene, my DH didn't walk until he was nearly 3!

Both me and OH were bum shufflers. DD was a bum shuffler also. DS also a bum shuffler. It does take these longer to start to walk, something to do with positioning etc. DS didn't start to walk until 5 years old although he also special needs, can't remember when DD started although she still needed a buggy at 4 for long distance.
