For those with lo's who had wind/colic as a baby do they still suffer with tummy problems now?

Ds 1 from 6 weeks till 13 weeks had terrible wind -hard tummy, knees up to tummy. Always after a feed.

As an older baby lots of very runny nappies, up the back nappies and very noxious nappies. (We though this was normal until Ds 2 came along who poos normal-like poo and has never leaked a nappy or had an up the back one.)

Since then we've been to A & E twice with him screaming with tummy pains (I had an appendicitis at 5 so am very overprotective ) Has explosive poo sometimes, bad flatulence and still has intermittent though regular tummy pains and he's now 5.

For the past year he's been investigated for glandular fever as he's tired, pale and is overwhelmed rather like a hormonal teenager when he's tired. The paediatrician thinks that him being tired 'Is just his thing' and that's that. He has been better tummy wise since being on the pro-biotic 1 a day drinks. (We?re waiting for the results of a second blood test as they lost the first set of results)

Anyone else's lo still had tummy problems after they had colic/wind as a baby?

DS1 had terrible colic - but after about 3 months was fine and has been fine ever since - is now 11 and has had d7v very rarely - can't remember last time - even when we went to Egypt ad every other family was ill we miracoulously weren't so don't worry - not necessarily a life sentence, just awful for you now...

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/03/2009 20:13

btw - forgot to add, I had perionitis also when I was 7, and so am paranoid about appendicitis, luckily no sisn yet in the Dc...

That's good to know. He's 5 and last year was crying as the flatulance was so lud it frightened him and it was painful!

He has plenty of ruffage but still gets these pains...

I'm pertrified to about appendix. They didn't diagnose mine until I could no longer walk. I ended up being ambulanced to hospital with the lights flashing. I think I am over worrying

Could he be allergic to something he's eating?

pamelat · 08/03/2009 20:32

DD had colic and mild reflux (just gaviscon solution). She was poorly (or at least cried a lot) from 2 weeks to 5 months, she is now fine (13 months now).

I had suspected appendicitis as a child and remember the pain and the fear of my parents but as I remember (I was only 8) it was actually stress caused by my best friend being off school poorly that day. I guess it was the equivalent of IBS? I appreciate that sounds odd but it did turn out to be stress related for me.

muppetgirl · 09/03/2009 17:49

could be stress with him... he's a very intense boy and was an equally intense baby.

Could also be allergies, dh has agreed that allergy testing is the next step for us if we get no joy form the latest paed's app.

Hi, it might be worth reading the Coeliac Disease symptoms and see if they are relevant. Only mentioning because my son 3.5 has just been diagnosed after the following symptoms thin, pale, tired, lots of smelly wind, pale and smelly poo, distended painful tummy, very irritable especially when tired. If it might be relevant you can get a home test called Biocard £19.99 from Boots or doctors can do a blood test. He has been on a gluten free diet for about 2 weeks now and is like a totally different child. Happy boy, colour in his cheeks, running everywhere, good appetite.
