Just wondering really! DS is 2.5, I would love to take him to the cinema to see Bolt, ok so maybe its me that wants to go lol!

But am I being a bit ridiculous, is he just too young to enjoy the experience?

Took both dds before they were 2.

BUT:

took dummies (normally strictly for bedtime only by that age)
sat near exit
was prepared to leave if necessary (it wasn't)
went to afternoon showing of kids' films

Bolt is great - we loved it!

MrsMattie · 06/03/2009 17:50

About 3.5 was when DS would even vaguely sit still and enjoy a film.

ProfYaffle · 06/03/2009 17:52

dd1 was 4.5 and was fine, took dd2 along too who was about 20m. dd2 was a disaster, I took her out after about half an hour. She has been fine at several stage shows though, first one at 18 mo.

guineamango · 06/03/2009 17:52

I recently took my DD 2.5y to see Bolt, and she loved it sat still and watched it start to finish! The big bag of popcorn helped as well! If your DS will watch a film at home, then I guess you will fine at the cinema.
Bolt is a great film by the way!

bigTillyMint · 06/03/2009 17:52

Mine went by the time they were 2. They were glued!

I think you know your own child and whether he is likely to sit and watch.

mimimilk · 06/03/2009 17:54

Yippee!
Think we may try it this weekend then, worse that can happen is that he gets a bit bored and we have to leave- hopefully he will think its a bit of an adventure

Depends on how long (and how loud) the film is tbh.

Mine are 5 and nearly 8 and still don't particularly like cinemas

Twims · 06/03/2009 17:58

I reckon if you go during school hours Mon-Fri you will probably have the screen almost completley empty so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

squeaver · 06/03/2009 18:02

Just over 2 - lasted halfway through.

Since 2.5 - all the way, although sometimes with a little snooze in the middle (me too!)

I heard Rita Chakrabarti on the radio recently saying that she took her son to see something very unexpected (can't remember what off the top of my head), about 2 hours long, when he was 18 months. Apparently he was utterly enthralled and sat still all the way through.

My babies have been to loads of my husband's orchestral concerts at all sorts of ages. I could usually count on them to be quiet and to behave appropriately from about age 2 onwards.

It does very depend on the child though.

duchesse · 06/03/2009 18:23

Shami! Shami Chakrabarti- the one who's director of Liberty, not the BBC correspondent.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 06/03/2009 18:25

We took our DD just after she turned three, she was exceptionally well behaved... during the adverts.
When the film came on, she started dancing in the aisle.
Luckily nobody semed to mind, and she settled down later.
Tip... just becuase you are going to see a film, dont treat them to an ice junkie drink

winnie09 · 06/03/2009 18:28

I took ds to cinema last Sunday morning and a woman sat a couple of seats away with a baby (guessing 9 months at the most)and other child about 5. I admit that I inwardly groaned and thought to myself 'I would never have done that...' (selfishly concerned about being disturbed throughout). However, we never heard a peep out of him, he seemed quite content and I am sure the eldest boy had a lovely time. Perhaps it just depends on the the individual child.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2009 18:35

2.5 should enjoy cinema

my youngest was a few weeks old - but slept through the film - went with her older brother and sister

elvislives · 06/03/2009 18:38

We took DD to the cinema regularly while I was on Maternity Leave (so 3 mo to 9 mo). We saw loads of films in those few months

She would watch the screen for a little while, BF then go off to sleep. At the end of the surfing penguin thing when the lights went up a lady in the row behind expressed surprise at seeing DD as she hadn't realised she was there.

Last film we went to with her was Enchanted. She decided to sing through the quiet bits so DH had to take her out. I wouldn't take her now (almost 2 years) until she was a little bit bigger because I'm sure she'd be a pest.

Our cinema lets you take babes-in-arms to U or PG films only, in the morning or afternoon. There aren't usually many people there Mon to Fri.

duchesse · 06/03/2009 18:43

In Montreal they have special cinema sessions for mothers and carers of babies showing non U/PG films (ie 12s and 15 equivalents, obv not 18s) during the daytime, at which they keep sound levels low. I thought that was really civilised.

Acinonyx · 06/03/2009 19:14

I'm dying to take dd (3.7) to the cinema and she has been watching films for a long time but she's so easily scared i daren't risk anything new. Is there ANYTHING scary in Bolt??

dingledangle · 06/03/2009 19:25

Aged 3. Bob the builder. It was 1 1/2 hrs end to end. Because it was a kids club screening it was fine. There were kids everywhere and some were concentrating on the film. Others were not.

Did find it VERY loud for little ears though!

WriggleJiggle · 06/03/2009 19:28

2.7 Madagasca - I had been told it was a really great film and that ds would love it. DH took him. Apparently there is a really scary shark - DH is still traumatised by the experience!

babblington · 06/03/2009 19:44

took ds when he was 7 days or so. Also took dd1 4.6 and dd2 2.6 - was great fun, madagascar2.

OrmIrian · 06/03/2009 19:45

Tiny, a few months. It's easier then because you can bf them to sleep. DD did try to walk out of Ice Age and go home when she was 18m . But we persuaded her to stay.

we took ds2 when he was 2.2 to go see walle last summer, he sat through the entire thing and was really good, so we thought we would go see madagascar 2 for ds1's birthday but ds2 didnt seem to like this as much and was a little annoying, he wouldnt sit still wanted to jump about on the seats and mess around, he was 2.6 then,
the last thing we went to see was bolt, he was a bit fidgety but sat through it, he was 2.9 then.

but at home he has a toy story obsession and will sit through the whole film everyday, this has gone on for about 3 weeks now. dp says there is a toy story 3 next year..
