Biting side of cot - help - what to do?

One of my 12 month old DTs has started biting the side of the cot bed and scraping off the top layer of vanish / wood.

How can I stop it?

As its a cot bed we need it to last for years more and so I dont want it looking all horrid and worn (and I am sure that eating vanish is not much good for DT either ).

HELP its driving me mad

DS did this when teething at around 6 months. Cot bumpers? Nothing really worked for us as he could move around and bite the bit without any bumpers. he stopped though.
sorry not to be more help!

I have vague memories of doing this

you can buy teething strips that you put over the top of the sides of cot they are plastic and perfectly safe if chewed we had these and saved the wood

DS2 did this, he ignored the sides with the plastic covers on and went for the head & foot boards. He didn't do it for long though.
