just wondering what your DC can draw around this age. DS is 2.7 and being assessed for ASD as his DX is up in the air. But he is most likely ASD.

Just wondering, he still scribbles just lines back and forth which I figured was pretty normal but yesterday a friend was over with her little boy who is only 5 months older, and he is drawing proper stick people, with eyes, eyeballs, body parts, all of it. And this friend works at a pre-school (that her DS attends) and said it is normal, all the kids of that age can draw like that. So I am just wondering if DS is behind in this. It is important for me to know as I am trying to provide the paediatrician with the relevant info for diagnosis. DS's drawings look exactly the same as they did when he was around 18 months old, I have some up on the wall and there is no change.

Thanks.

I wouldn't have a clue how to draw a guinea fowl

Another non-drawer here - my DS is 3.9, and loves scribbling, glueing etc but it's almost all abstract, not representational. He also likes doing pretend writing which is lots of little squiggles and lines, but doesn't do real letters - just like you say, he does the same scribbles as he did at 18mo. His contemporaries are all drawing people, cats etc and writing their names! That worried me when I first noticed it, but judging by the responses on here it is within the normal range. I don't think your friend was particularly helpful to single your DS out like that - he's obviously not the only one.

Some people with ASD are good at drawing so it may be irrelevant to the whole thing.

dd4 26mth old, does not really draw but likes to do dots. I draw ladybirds and she does the spots bit on them or I draw animals/people and she adds the eyes. she is starting to scribble but it does not look like anything....
... from this planet anyway.

I think children's drawings are often misunderstood by us adults.

I remember DD 'hopping' her marker along the page, producing a series of dots, and telling me it was a rabbit...it made sense to her. DS did something similar recently - telling me some scribbly lines he made very furiously and quickly were "running".

I think children often draw for the fun of it, for the thrill of making things happen, or whatever, with no real thought of creating something...its just the fun of the process.
