dd4 has started screaming strangely in new places if we go out. real petrified screaming and sobbing. she even did it at my mums when we went from sunny outside at the park, to into my mums house.

i mean, i know babies have feelings tc, but never had such a little one react like this.

Mt DD was like this - I had almost worn a groove in the sofa, sitting with her until she was about 8 months and able to sit up herself.

I used to despair over ever going anywhere with her, as she would just scream and scream.

I ended up bringing a blanket with me wherever we went and putting her down on it to look at the ceiling. We couldn't stay were there was a lot of noise or music - no coffee mornings for me!

She was fine on her blanket looking at the ceiling, but just got over stimulated with sound and colour if she was upright.

My Dd has amazing musical ear, perhaps your DD has also?

I'm glad I was able to be sensitive to her needs, and not have to lug her tither and yon, when it didn't suit her personality, as she's the most confident girl now, and very little phases her.

good luck with it!

its a pain if changing rooms are badly lit, she sobs and sobs.

hates loud noises, she is very attached to me.

do you talk her through it?
do you manage to keep your cool?
have been reading baby whisperer, its helped somewhat understanding my 3.5 month old.
might be worth a look

Yes children can get freaked with any issues, I knew a 3 month old that screamed if a door closed when you were near it (maybe felt trapped?), a 4 moth old that screamed at flocked wallpaper especially if grey or black and a 2 month old that screamed at changing rooms.

The only thing I have found to stop it is singing, either horsey horsey, see the little bunnies, or round and round the garden. It sounds like your DD doesn't like it if it's not light. If you were in the sunny park and went into the house you know your eyes do that freaky things and everything looks really dark and star-ish at the same time? Also baby changing have low lighting. Can't explain the loud music although lots of children hate loud noises. She sounds like she has heightened senses?

Hopefully singing will work - good luck!

misdee - my ds is terrified sometimes when one of the girls waves something in his face- a real petrified scream. He's four months.
