Constant singing and talking nonsense

My DD is 2.4 and does NOT EVER shut up..she constantly sings the same nursery rhymes over and over again in a loud voice, if I hear "Twinkle Twinkle little star" once again I will scream..

Is this normal? Am just slightly concerned as I don't ever see other kids doing it...

am bumping this as i know there are lots of toddler experts out there!

Normal I think.

Ds is 2.6 and funnily enough, his song od choice is 'Twinkle Thtar' as well.

Some days I think my ears will bleed from his constant wittering. People frequently comment on his good speech, but God, they don't have to listen to him for 13 hrs a day.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/02/2009 19:42

Phew, thanks, she does also shake her head with excitement, and does seem err... rather "eccentric" but I suppose that is a 2 year old's privilege

Oh yes they do some funny little things sometimes, don't they? But they are good fun too.

nondomesticgoddess · 01/03/2009 19:40

Dd stops speaking/singing only when she's sleeping - it is exhausting!! How can listening be so tiring??

Oh, and sometimes I am not allowed to sing myself. Other times she insists that I sing NOW (usually when I'm trying to eat).

Song of choice - Away in a Manger. Yes, it's been going on now for 3 months!

Glad to know there are other tortured ears out there!

Sounds normalI seem to remember ds doing this.DD is non verbal but signs "Stars" at me or "Bus" and I have to oblige by singing the appropriate rhyme....again,and again, and again

homicidalmatriach · 01/03/2009 21:03

DD is exactly the same age and does exactly the same thing - drives us absolutely potty.

Worse still, she makes us sing too.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 07:44

I have always sung to her a lot, so perhaps I only have myself to blame!

DS is just like this , his thing at the moment is to make me walk in a circle and sing "come on peoples! sing! wheels on bus - NOW, and dancing, dance mummy dance" We also have a constant commentary on his every thought!

His dad is a talker too - i dread weekends!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 10:46

I am a talker too so I think my DH dreads weekends!

The talking can be useful though, last week we had "tip milk? yes yes DS will tip milk! tip milk now" DS advances for the cup of milk and I was able to stop him in his tracks!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 11:46

Yes...! My DD often says "don't touch it" and I can stop her in tracks!!!

Sorry but ds is 5 and a constant fighting noise or Ironman flying noise or theme music from any Marvel movie is always around our house

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 11:50

nooo

claireybeemine · 02/03/2009 11:51

DD is the same, has been ever since she found her voice. She makes up little songs and stories too, haven't got a clue what she is talking about half the time.

PlumBumMum · 02/03/2009 11:53

claireybeemine as long as shes not talking to someone you can't see your all right

Boco · 02/03/2009 11:54

dds are 4 and 6 and this weekend invented their own language, which is just a stream on loud nonsense words. They spent yesterday afternoon doing a 'quiz' which was one of them saying 'right, what is fagrantablorb?' 'erm, is it babagrablafash?' 'CORRECT, WELL DONE!'

karise · 02/03/2009 12:30

DD is still like this at 6 1/2! Does it ever stop? Or do I just have to resign myself to the constant noise of a 'verbal learner'?

DaddyJ · 02/03/2009 13:05

dd is singing more and more these days.
I love it. It's beyond gorgeous.

Teach her more tunes, might help.
Though unfortunately learning is all about repetition..

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 13:05

My DD's singing is sadly not beyond gorgeous, very cute though!

Just picked her up from playgroup, she was marching around singing to everyone!!

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/03/2009 13:06

she knows quite a few tunes but they are not very tuneful!

OP posts:
DaddyJ · 02/03/2009 14:44

lol
I can relate to that
which is probably why I tolerate dd's tunes -
she tolerates my attempts at singing!

theyoungvisiter · 02/03/2009 14:51

oh I can so relate to this - DS1 is 2.9 and sings, chats (to himself), acts out weird little imaginary scenarios (hand A to hand B), has imaginary arguments etc etc etc.

I also get shouted at "No Mummy, STOP SINGING"

Or else, DS does snatch of incomprehensible song I have never heard of followed by "Come on Mummy, you sing. Go on Mummy, you can do it!" (In v enthusiastic cheerleading sort of way)

Habbibu · 02/03/2009 14:54

DD (2.4) has taken to making up songs, and asking us to make them up too "I want the mango song" "What's the mango song?" "The MANGO song, mummmmee-balummmeee!!" She'll give you a long loooonnngg medley on car journeys. Favourite atm is Little Rabbit Foo Foo.

I love it, tbh - it's a cheery sound, and she can be very very funny.
