10 day old confusing day and night

Hi, my dd2 is 10 days old today and sleeps most of the day, and then is up most of the night! I have been looking at books which stress the importance of keeping them awake for short periods during the day - but how do you do this? If she is determined to sleep, it's very hard to stop her!

wasnt able to do this with ds until about 8 weeks old as apparently at thats age they can start to recognise day and night

it sounds normal has only been 10 days thats no time ther eroutines start setting themselves the older they get dont worry

Not everyone will agree with me but I had to wake ds1 up each time he fell asleep. It was incredibly hard and I'd spend hours crying over it because it took up most of the day just trying to keep waking him up. I'd obviously let him sleep for the usual naps though! Each day got a bit better and after a week he was back to 'normal'.
Good luck whatever you choose, I do feel for you.

Sh's only 10 days old. It will sort itself out - honestly. Make sure you take her outside every day for as long as possible so that the light registers in her brain - but remember my mother's favourite saying "Babies Grow Up Automatically"!

Is this book the Baby Whisperer by any chance? That bangs on about "flipping day for night" when actually a ten day old baby has no concept of day or night, and will feed, wake and sleep as and when they want to.

It's very normal, and very hard to start with, you must be exhausted. Hang in there, post here for support a lot. This too shall pass.
