he's just started grabbing hold of things, seems to love it, but i can't help feeling like i'm being lazy if he's entertaining himself for longer than 20 minutes - am i being mental!?

You are a bit. What entertaining can you do with an 11 week old? Enjoy it while it lasts...

DarrellRivers · 25/02/2009 16:05

Leave him as long as he is enjoying it

SnowlightMcKenzie · 25/02/2009 16:06

yes. I'd leave him there until he stopped enjoying it and complained. You'll soon know when he is fed up.

You might feel lazy but he is learning loads, and enjoying practising using his limbs, coordinating and cause and effect.

i thought so - typical 1st time mum looking for problems where there aren't any!

As long as he's happy!!! My 11 week old is currently doing the same and cooing. He's happy.....I'm happy!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 25/02/2009 16:08

KingRolo · 25/02/2009 16:11

As my FIL says, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

AMumInScotland · 25/02/2009 16:14

Till he's bored! And he'll tell you loud and clear when that happens...

stainesmassif · 25/02/2009 16:25

maybe it just feels too easy - now he seems equally entertained by watching me play on the wii fit

Hi stainesmassif

You remind me of me with my DS1. I thought that if I personally wasn't looking at him, talking to him etc. he'd never learn anything. I used to worry about his ability to play by himself, in fact as he got older I even worried he was autistic because he seemed to like it so much. In fact, now 8 he is just really good, (and really enjoys) playing on his own sometimes.

DS2 however, is a different matter .....

Don't worry, there will be harder bits coming!

stainesmassif · 25/02/2009 17:04

yes, it's so lovely watching him, why am i worrying?! i should be counting my blessings!! i am still blaming hormones for everything

Reminds of me when DD (PFB) was couple of weeks old and HV pointed out I could read a book, watch TV while bfing. I felt like I should just watch her or was somehow being neglectful. I told HV who looked at me like I was mad! 3.5 years on I would love to be able to sit in front of my TV in the day (rather than Beebies) ...
