Medicine taking

Hi,
My daughter, Florence is nearly 3 but will not take any medicine orally. She refuses and rejects all spoon or syringe dispensed liquid. We have tried, believe me.

Powder form Calpol and paracetamol are not avaiable to the under 6's and she is too young to realise how important it is to get medicine to reduce temperature.

Currently she's running a temperature with a virus - I think it's 'erythema infectosium' - and we're giving her paracetamol suppositories, which she understandably doesn't like !

Has anyone else got a child who refuses medication orally and yet is uncomfortable (!) with suppositories ? Ideas ?

Can you ix it with milk (and maybe nesquick too - so she doesn't notice) - not an informed opinion - just wondering (know my sis used to mix it with formula for her babe when having similar probs?)... My daughter's called Florence too! 8.5m LOVE the name...

Calpol (liquid form)can be mixed in with fromage frais, and is stable, for up to about 30 mins. I contacted their medical information department and asked them to check for me.

Have you tried Junior Nurofen? It's much nicer!

Snickers - Thanks for this, a good idea but she's sussed it and we need something neutral, most tastes, flavours are too strong to hide in milk.
hmb - also good idea, but she smells Calpol a mile off and doesn't like fromage frais - sorry.
Tissy - yes we have tried junior nurofen, she won't touch it sadly !
So far the temperature has gone down after 3 days taking paracetamol suppositories, but it's not ideal. We're really looking for a neutral substance that can be hidden in milk without our DD sensing it's there !
Still happy to hear other suggestions....

You have probably already tried this, but have you tried holding her nose? It dulls the tastebuds (and she will have to open her mouth).

DOZOL - if you can find it is great stuff. It is like Infant Medised (paracetamol and an antihistamine) and it just has a sweet flavour - no nasty sickly artificial fruit flavours. We used it withour 3.5 ds who refused everything else.
It can easily be put in milk or just about anything without really changing the flavour.
Good luck.

Junior DISPROL (paracetamol) tablets dissolve completely and are a peach flavour so mix well in orange (or if brave forms a clear liquid if in water!)- brilliant as get into blood system very quickly and excellent for sore throats and teething as actually relieve pain as swallowed- also can be given at 3 months+
