DD has attention span of a gnat!

DD has just turned 2 and has never been very good at concentrating on one thing especailly when we play together, no sooner have we got out a puzzle/book/toy etc. she's already on to the next thing, for example, she will bring me a book, open it, read a bit then go and get another... aaahhh!! its so frustrating! She won't even watch a full episode of In the night garden with me! It's become very hard to do anything with her, she does enjoy doing the housework though !!

She is very loving and very affectionate, but I am worried about her general devlopment... she doesn't seem to be able to concentrate long enough on anything to learn. Her language is coming nicely, she can use about 20 words, but, doesn't string them together, she can't count, do colours or letters.

Sometimes she appears not to hear when I call her or ask her something. Also she falls over and is very clumsey.

Is this okay or should I be worried? Any advice or similar experiences much appreciated.

Your dd sounds just like my dd1 (who has also just turned 2) although my dd1 has more language maybe. But she seriously has NO attention span and it drives me nuts. No sooner has she asked for something than she is already after something else. I joke she's like a teenager because she just ignores me when I try to talk to her sometimes. I think the attention span is normal at this age, as is being a bit clumsy.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much. She's still very young for numbers and letters and stuff like that. But if it would put your mind at rest, why not ask your hv or gp about it? The only thing I wondered about would be her hearing (if you think she doesn't hear you and they would also have a better idea of what to expect of her at this age (I'm only going by my own dd1 as she's my eldest child!).

Don't think you need worry at all! My friend's dd is exactly the same- I agree that the only thing you could get checked would be if you think she doesn't actually hear you sometimes...although a lot of children that age have already developed selective hearing!
As for attention spans, my ds2 won't sit through any tv programme nor through a book if I read to him! Too many other things to be doing!
