Boys - is this normal

Recently potty trained DS - I have noticed when he goes for a wee, literally just before release, his willy kind of balloons. DH is being completely unhelpful and doesn't know if that's normal or not. Can someone reassure me please? He's had a lot of problems with pain before/after weeing which the doctor has put down to irritation which apparently is quite common, but I didn't think to mention about the ballooning...

Possibly, posssibly not - there is a condition called balanitis(?) which can be quite serious but other m'netters have reported similar as normal for their ds !

Ballooning of the Foreskin
Ballooning of the foreskin while urinating can be a normal phase of development during childhood. Ballooning is a temporary phenomenon that arises when the foreskin begins to separate from the glans. It speeds the process of separation and disappears when the process is complete.

from another site

Ballooning of the foreskin now (2006) is considered to be a sign that separation of the foreskin from the underlying glans penis is proceeding normally. It is not a cause for concern. Ballooning is a normal stage of development. Ballooning will stop when the opening of the foreskin enlarges with normal growth and development over a period of time.]

My DS has this. I'm pretty sure its normal

thank you - that's very reassuring. I was only worried because of the pain he's been having and so now he's taken to holding his wee in to the point he starts "leaking" before going so it's more noticeable.
