DD has always been a great sleeper and eater but recently she has been all the over place with her sleep eg not going down at her normal time, missing her day time nap some days.

And also she seems constantly hungary and I keep topping her up.

This has coincided with her beginning to walk unaided, does this seem normal?

Yes.
She is burning up LOADS more energy and she has learned a fanastic new skill that she wants to practice constantly.
I founf that after a few weeks of walking, ds started to sleep really well as he was totally shattered. Also, she might just be changing her nap pattern, maybe from 2 a day to 1, if she hasn't already?

Shes recently dropped to one a day nicky. Thanks for explaining, it all makes sense now.

Do you have any ideas what healthly snacks can I give apart from fruit, she eats loads of fruit already and I'm worried about her teeth

Sorry, had to go.

Bread sticks are good. Carrots, bits of cheese, mini sandwiches. Those Organixx 'crisps' are good, but pricey. Fruit is full of sugar, but apparently the action of chewing produces plenty saliva to help neutralise it. You could give her a wee drink of milk or square of cheese afterwards to help if you are worried?

Thanks Nicky, I have started another thread on healthy snacks now >

Does giving cheese/milk work? My friend suggested it as well but I hadn't heard of it before

I gave up giving dd fruit as snacks - it didn;t fill her up and she ended up eating loads

oatcakes or bread with philadephia / hummus /peanut butter or even just plain butter did her better.

or [whispers] plain biscuits like rich tea fingers - bit of sugar for energy, bit of complex carb

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 17/02/2009 11:14

I just tried cucumber and pepper sticks with hummous to dip it in, she stuck her hand in the hummous and ate it all but want intrested in the pepper and cucumber, just kept spitting it out.

that's fine

if she's hungry she needs fuel (carbs, protein, fat) rather than veg.

keep offering the veg but don;t be surprised if she wants stodge.

Went away again!

Well, according to my toothtastic dental nurse friend, dairy stuff does help after fruit. Something to do with it's pH apparently.

nickytwotimes · 17/02/2009 11:36

And yes, I second the plain biscuits. A lot less sugarey than the rusks we got in the 70s!

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 17/02/2009 12:40

She likes cheese so I'll give her a little bit after fruit, thanks nicky.

Thats good to know MrsBadger, I'm still learning when it comes to nutrition, didnt really take any intrest in it till dd was born
