Q for those of you who moved DC to cot early

I see on another thread that lots of you put your DC in to a bed from their cot before they were 2yo and reported 'no problems'

I'm thinking about doing this but am worried about him getting out of bed and touching things he shouldn't, in particular his fascination with electric plugs.

I suppose this is the same worry even when the child is older. Can anyone put my mind at rest? Do they do this or do they tend to stay put?

DD was 22 months and she didn't realise for ages that she could get out of bed! When she did, she couldn't get far because she was in a sleeping bag.

Now she does get up, she just comes straight to find company rather than getting up to mischief in her room.

It varied hugely amongst my friends and their children. My two (twins) were put into beds at about 14 months as I found one of them had climbed out of hers and into her sisters during the night. Very sweet to see them cuddled up together but I was worried she would fall and hurt herself now she knew she could do it! We put a stairgate across their bedroom door which contained them to a certain extent, but there was a phase of approx 2-3 weeks when they would rampage round the room exploring and would eventually go quiet after about an hour. Me and DH would creep up and find them both completely naked, asleep on the floor, surrounded by books, toys, debris!

I was very jealous to hear friends saying their children didn't move out of their bed until they were told to in the morning.

Mine have both been really different- my 'naughty' DD didn't realise that she could get out of the bed for about a year so would shout and not move. 'Easy going' DS was like a yo yo and a total pain in the butt but tended not to be interested in things that he would normally try and trash during the day. They were 2 and 18 mths respectively. Fortunately they do settle down and now only get up in the night to get into bed with each other (sweet emoticon )

It might be different with one, I think two egg each other on a bit more.

Hmmm, looks like I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens.

Can you cover the sockets, at least temporarily, with a heavy bit of furniture. Presuming he has fathomed the plastic covers!

put DD in a small bed at about 18months before she tried climbing out of her cot, working on the principle that if she hadn't tried escape yet she wouldn't think to try once in a bed! if she wanted to get out of her cot there was more chance that she'd hurt herself falling out, so if he's showing any sign of trying to escape you should probably move him to a bed.

dd usually stays put, but often to be found asleep surrounded by toys or with different clothes on!

occasionally sleeps at the top of stairs or climbs into DS's high sleeper and cuddles up with him!

at the end of the day, they have to grow up sooner or later and you can't keep them in a cot much past 2.5 anyway as they're just too big.
