Toilet training...Should I try yet?

Hi. My DD is 2.1 and suddenly very interested in using the potty. She talks about it and likes to sit on it fully clothed. She hates having her nappy changed so I think she'd be happier using the potty. My instinst tells me she's maybe ready to try but I'm due to give birth again in 3 months and I'm told toddlers can regress and become very confused once the new baby arrives and is in nappies. Any advice on this and a book I could buy for some tips would be much appreciated!

hi my dd was trained at about that age and within a couple of weeks, once she was dry during the day we got nappies of at night.
we had a couple of accidents but it was fine and by the time she was 2.4 she was fully potty trained

not sure what to say about advice but we did not put pressure and we did not offer rewards charts etc just got on as normal we
gave her reminders and would have the potty ready and visible at all times

also it took longer to do poo in the potty she would sometimes ask for the nappy but with reassurance we got over that

hope that is helpful

My dd was potty trained by 20 months, her desire not mine. We cheered when she did it on the toilet/potty and nothing when she made a mistake...it took 2 weeks, no problem with poos or big toilet seats, no regression when dc4 was born either (she was 26 m).

another thing is that although dd is an only child, so no experience of new sibling but I don't think it is confusion as much as wanting extra attention which is perfectly normal
she might quite enjoy being 'the big girl' who can do things the baby can't

and yes the successful wee and poo was greeted with much enthusiasm and occasionally phone calls to grandparents

Thank you. I think I'll spend tomorrow at home giving it a go. I'd rather try much praise and phone calls than rewards so fingers crossed!

my ds decided he wanted to use the toilet when he was 2.2. I was pregnant and we had to leave "home" and travel to England where we stayed with Granny. (so loads of changes) He effectively was potty trained in the week before and after I gave birth! A lot of this was that all his cousins used the toilet so he wanted to as well. I had a friend who's no. 2 was born at the same time, and her daughter (same age as my ds) did the same thing. She saw the other kids at nursery doing it and she wanted to use the toilet, so she was trained in the month that her mum gave birth!

Don't worry, if they are leading the way it is no big deal, just expect a lot of accidents at first, have a pile of dry clothes handy, take them to the loo once an hour (I used to set a timer to remind myself) praise when they manage it, no stress when they don't. Get a "big kid" in who uses the loo - peer pressure can be a wonderful thing.
I prefer to go completely nappyless rather than pull ups, but that probably depends if you have carpets!

Good luck

not too early. Boy pretty well trained him self at 2.1 or 2.2 , he had a week or so nappy less at home ( nappy rash was playing up)and started taking him self to the potty when he needed. Didn't go back in to nappies for day time at all after that.
Tok him holiday at 2.3 and he was fine even with traveling and strange loos etc.
Getting him dry in pants was a whole other story tho... so he went commando for a couple of months. shorts he could deal with, but not shorts and pants.
