Had a great morning with DS until he decided to lie on the pavement and refused to move. He didn't want carried, he didn't want to walk. He was obviously tired and just lay there. I carried him for a bit ( he was struggling and screaming) so I felt like some kind of child abductor. As soon as I put him down again he lay on the pavement covered in mud. I am so upset at him and myself for losing it a bit. Just needed a rant really..

I used to pick my ds1 up under my arm, like a rugby ball, when he did that. He could thrash away to his heart's content and not hurt himself or me. I perfected a blank expression to go with. Most people found it quite funny.....

Hey, you're not alone. My ds did it in the supermarket the other day. I was only buying one thing, an M&S trifle, so stupidly decided I could handle ds and trifle without a basket. Cue running for the door (him not me), then tantrum on floor in protest at being hauled back to the checkout, then me dropping said trifle on the floor (big mess) while I attempted to pick him up. Old lady behind me piped up 'Oh dear, you're not doing very well are you?!'

It's great having an audience.

nickytwotimes · 10/02/2009 12:46

Oh, it's the pits, isn't it?
DOn't feel bad for losing it - everyone does.

Glad I don't have the only child who likes to put on a performance in public. He's a strapping boy and is closer to 3 than two. Please tell me they grow out of it at 3??
My arms are aching. JimmyMcNulty you made me laugh, thank you!

I usually have the pram with me at all times. On this occasion he wouldn't go in the pram this morning and I didn't have time to argue with him. He walked for a bit while I told him all the things he could have for lunch. Then I sang Fireman Sam over and over again which kept him entertained. It was almost like he decided he had walked far enough thank you and got himself into a right state not helped by me growling "walk" at him and rolling my eyes to passers by who were laughing at him. I just feel so guilty at getting so worked up. Having a stand off with a 2 year old ffs.
But you are all making me feel much better with your soothing words

oh yes, DS is a master of this - in the mud as well. I scoop him up and carry him lengthways under one arm

Definitely, don't go too far without a buggy

midnightexpress · 10/02/2009 13:46

I generally resort to the fireman's lift for ds2, which seems to amuse him. Dp usually puts him on his shoulders, which he also seems to like.

I do find I don't worry at all about what other people think (just as well), and I always imagined i would when I saw it happening to other people. It just seems quite funny to me. I think it does help to have a sense of humour about it.

I am not alone thank god. DS is the worst behaved child ever. I watch other people with their children and they do not behave like he does. Yesterday was a nightmare in Tesco, for a little trip he laid on the floor screamed at everything at the top of the traveator he is laid across the floor so I slid him out of the way with my foot, looked AWFUL I know but honest it didn't hurt him I just couldn't wrestle with him anymore.
So top that...

waitingforgodot · 10/02/2009 14:08

How old is your DS Eve34?
Maybe its something about Tescos that they object to? We should start a help group for mums with wild boys. In fact is that not what Mumsnet is all about? Thank god for Mumsnet. First time I have really ranted on here and you have all made me feel so much better. Thank you x

He is nearly 2.6 but has been a handful since 18 months, he is getting better now he understands more, but it is exhusting I plan to do things with him because I think he will like it but he just plays me up. And he will not be bribed there is only so much jollying along I can do......

waitingforgodot · 10/02/2009 16:28

He sounds just like my DS. I plan to do stuff which I think he will love and it usually ends up a disaster coz he runs wild!
