Did anyone see the article on faddy eaters in today's Telegraph? It was quite interesting, and said that if they won't eat the food that you prepare, to leave it and give them nothing until the next meal. All good advice, except it didn't tell you how to stop your hungry child then having a tantrum in every shop when they see food! It also assumed that the worst fed children belonged to teenage mums, who wouldn't have the knowledge to correctly feed a child. I am not a teenage mum, and had absolutely no knowledge of any aspect of child raising...I read it in books and asked friends/health visitors etc. I assume that teenagers these days can read too!

My brother lived on sausages, burgers, chips and bacon for years. He is now 6ft tall and perfectly healthy. As he's got older he has started eating some veg, he'll eat carrots and peas, and he'll eat soup with onions in it if it has been blended and he doesn't know that there are onions in it, lol. I even trick my 20 something brother into eating veg.
DD is another story entirely. She started off really well, would eat anything that we put in front of her. For a good couple of years she had peas practically every day with her evening meals, but eventually went off them. Now she will eat broccoli and mushrooms, she loves them, carrots if she feels like it and onions sometimes. She'll also eat other vegetables although not in the quantities that she'll eat those mentioned above.
The one thing that she is not keen on in any shape or form is potatoes. She is always given some potato if that is what we're having but she'll maybe only have one mouthfull and that will be it. chips the same she'll eat a few but that's all, but she doesn't get them very often.
She practically lives off pasta with bolognaise, with hidden vegetables and I make meatballs using the annabel carmel recipes. those are recipes that I've had good success with she'll eat practically anything I make from those books, but I don't spend time making the food into shapes as I just don't have the time.
I don't worry about her eating as I know that as she gets older her tastes will probably change. When I was younger I hated practically all vegetables but as I've got older I eat more veg than meat, not totally vegetarian but verging on it. Oh and she eats lots of fruit as well especially grapes. and we use the packets of apricots in the packed lunch box, they are great for kids and she loves them.

When I was a child the only veg I would eat was raw carrot - I once even blew my nose in disgust on a lettuce leaf! My parents were incredibly varied eaters and my mum's a great cook. Every meal time I was made to have (and eat) a bit of everything, I even carried this on at school.

I'm now a confirmed vegetarian! So mabe tastes just change.

Also read somewhere that kids are more likely to enjoy what we eat when we're pregnant so I'm probably doing my little one to be by stuffing my face with cakes!

Chinchilla, I'm a Telegraph crossword addict too.
I shall miss it all next week as I will be in Meribel, though I'll try and get my hands on one a day late at £2 a copy, much to DH's disgust!

Oh well, I'll just have to content myself with the Mumsnet book that arrived this morning!

Alibubbles - I bought it every day in Les Arcs 2000! Dh was not too impressed either! Are you skiing? I'm jealous...

Chinchilla. off to Meribel at 5.15 tomorrow morning!

Had lots of snow mid week, so should be good, yes we're skiing!

Do a run for me. I haven't been since 2000. 2001 pregnant, 2002 six month old, 2003 toddler (need I say more!)

I'm so jealous. Hopefully next year, dh and I will go for a long weekend. Then, the following year, ds will be old enough to start to learn. Have a fab time...
