How much milk should a 16 month old be getting?

Hi All

My little one is 16 months and we have just dropped the morning bottle. So now he just has his bottle of cows milk at bedtime (11oz) and water in a sippy cup through out the day. I have been offering him milk in a sippy cup when he wakes up, but he has only been drinking about 1OZ of it.

Is this enough? He has a yoghurt everyday and cheese as a snack too.

Just wanted to know what other mums with babies the same age are doing with their little one's and get some advice from anyone who might know a lot more then me about it!

THanks all x

Cow's Milk is not a requirement in a child's diet hence there is no answer to 'how much he should be having.'

Milk is another food in a balanced diet. I take it it is calcium and iron intake you are concerned about? If that is the case, a lot of other common foods are also great sources of calcium and iron.

Baked beans, fish (fresh or canned) just to name 2. There is also calcium enriched orange juice on the market. Juices help the body to absorb iron too so it is a good idea to have some at meal times.

Of course yoghurt (buy a bigger tub of natural yoghurt and mix in a bit of jam - much healthier and cheaper than the petit filous type things they con market to parents.) and cheese are great ways to put milk into a child's diet without it being 'milk'.
