Now he's denying it as he think's he in trouble. I'm guessing that if I took him to hospital they wouldn't be able to do anything anyway, but I'm worried about it getting stuck in his gut.

how old is he?
best to get telephone advice from out of hours gp or a and e

There are certain things that the medics like to know about with swallowing - cant remember which ones they are - so do ring and check.

My dd swallowed a locket, it departed three days later!!

marble unlikely to get stuck. But do ring out of hours gp for advice.

janeite · 07/02/2009 18:36

I remember my brother insisting he'd done this when he was about three. To this day (he's 30-something)we don't know if he actually did or not; certainly it never came out!

Deffo best to ring GP or NHS direct for advice I think.

Ring 0845 46 47 just to be on the safe side. They'll advise you.

My DS told me he'd swallowed a battery - of course they're toxic, so I had to take him to A&E to be Xrayed. Queued for 5 hours, his Xray was clear, 3 months later we found the battery in a spare teapot at the bottom of the cupboard he'd been playing in.

Kids, eh? [knackered sigh]

Hope all is well, and you find the marble very soon one way or 'ahem' the other

psychomum5 · 07/02/2009 21:47

DS2 swollowed a glass pebble last year, he was then 5.

he complained that he could still feel it in his throat, so of we trot to A&E.

one xray later, tis in his belly, so they just say keep an eye to ensure safe passge thru his gut, and go back if not passed in several days (not time limit given, butI assumed about 6/7).

anyhooooooooooo

3days later, he stops pooing, I start fretting.

ask advice on here on day 6, they say let him run around and play lots to stimulate his bowel (IIRC at least)....he goes to play on his bike, then runs in the house heading for the loo, like a child poccessed.

BANG, he shot the damn thing out like a bullet (I seriously thought he had cracked the loo it was that loud!)

and he has been fine since

LoveMyGirls · 07/02/2009 21:53

My sister swallowed a marble (because i dared her - in my defence i was younger than her and it was her idea) anyway I can remember my mum making her pooh on a potty then fishing through it with camping pegs and she's fine (will be 30 later this year)

Hope your ds manages to pass it without any pain (at least its round and quite small)

Franniban · 08/02/2009 09:44

Well, we'll be waiting for it to come out the other end. They pretty much said the same thing, that if it went into his stomach then it should be ok and should pass out the other end. If he gets stomach ache then to go to the doctors.

The only problem is if he passes it at school. We'll have to ask the teachers to keep an eye out!!!
