2 year old car seat escapism

My 2yr old DS keeps shrugging out of the top straps of his 5-point harness in the car seat. We've tightend straps, raised them lowered them, he is just a little escape artist.

He journey better on a booster (for quick trip in friends cars) when we can't take his car seat. He is a big lad, in terms of his height and measure up better near most 3 years olds I know. I was wondering if I move him permanently to a booster, although I am loathed to do so, because the protection is not as great.

Any advice of different types of car seat that could help us with this problem.

If you can't reason with him over the harness it will be much harder using seatbelt. Is he over 15kgs ?

My son did this, Mothercare said I just had that sort of child and nothing would help!

Speak to them or another car seat fitters and see what they say. He may be safer in just a booster seat if he is buckled in.

Ds1 went through a brief phase of this. The only thing that worked was shouting at him like I'd never shouted at him before, and getting one of those additional mirrors to stick to the windscreen, directed at him, so that I could see when he was starting to shuffle around and attempt his Houdini thing,

I would suggest the houdini stop

www.houdinistop.co.uk

It has been crash tested as well as approved by the ACRI as safe.

It clips on dead easy, you can do it with one hand

It doesnt move up or down without any real force

Our youngest was always pulling his arms out but this totally did the trick.

I read a lot about these sorts of things being illegal and dangerous as it takes the emergency services longer to get them out in an accident. The way i see it, if you have a crash and your child has their arms out of their straps they are going to be in great danger before it gets to the point of the emergency services trying to get them out of the car. And at the end of the day the strap can be cut int he middle if needs be.

As for it being illegal I have done my fair share of research and can confirm that EU legislation states you cant SELL a car seat with this type of thing on it, but there is no law against buying one, or attaching one yourself.

We feel much happier and more comfortable driving now knowing the he is fastened in securely and not with his arms out all over the place.
