She is happy to use the buggy or demands to be carried (esp with me). She is very small for her age and was very late to walk (2.6yrs!). She starts reception in Sept and I am concerned that she won't be able/willing to walk to school (15mins).

Should I try and make her walk (resulting in a howling dd clinging to my leg) or just let her take it at her own pace and use the buggy/carry her?

My daughter used to drive me nutty by refusing to walk - always seemed really lethargic. We used to talk about how you make more energy by using it, and if you are too tired to walk you should run cos that gets your energy flowing - sounds like a load of claptrap but it did work.

Anyway, she is now five (today) and suddenly quite happy to walk and generally far more active. Sometimes I think they are just busy growing and developing and it uses up their energy. Hopefully she might just grow out of it (?)

Does she have a scooter? My DS doesn't really like walking, but scoots much faster than I can walk. He has one of the Mini Micro scooters.

Yes go for the scooter.

My dd2 is like that, she has just turned 4 and I've just recently ditched the buggy and make her walk small distances where I can. Sometimes I humour her by carrying her a little bit of the way and that seems to keep her going. She is getting less whingey about walking, more accepting that she has to do it.

Thanks all. She can't/won't use a scooter.

Hopefully she will grow out of it .
