DS is 2.9. Has suddenly taken to watching tv with his hands down his pants and then shouting 'look mummy look'

What is the correct response?

ds had to see a urologist today

he is 6 months old

guess how he greeted the consultant????

Mummyfor3 · 02/02/2009 22:42

, Ria!!

Curly, I know what you mean! Needs to be good distraction ...
I have been asked what else penises are for, other than wee-wees... Just kept a straight face, I hope, and said that grown-up men needs them to make babies with (he is familiar with the concept that you need to have a mummy and a daddy to make a baby ) and left it at that (holding my breath waiting for more).

IME, they are often satisfied with v literal answers rather than big long explanations. When I was expecting DS3 we did discuss how babies grow in mummy's tummy - but the question how the got in there never came...

OMG PUT IT AWAY OR IT WILL DROP OFF AND THE DOG WIL EAT IT

RiaParkinson · 02/02/2009 22:59

the consultant had obviously seen it all before and said he was infact 'glad to see it was all in working order'

DS is 3.11 - he has started running around the house half naked - he only wears a t-shirt or p.j. top - his excuse is he is too hot and goes into a 'trance' whilst playing with himself.

It's a very natural thing for a boy to do (so his father tells me) - Don't make too much fuss I agree with rangichangi - let him know where and when is appropriate (possibly too young to understand just now, before school if still at it then give him direction).

ICANDOTHAT · 03/02/2009 14:32

I tell my boys it's like picking your nose ... you do it in privat ! Works for them.

I think it beats my mum telling my brothers they would go blind if they fiddled with their bits 'n' pieces

PinkTulips · 03/02/2009 15:05

ds(2.6) recently found my hair comb in the shower and spent ages entertaining himself with that

he hasn't really felt the need to demonatrate yet although he does give me eceedingly pleased with himself smirks when he's fiddling!

OzJo · 04/02/2009 06:52

Surely this is a " phase " they never grow out of? My DS 3 and a half, has been having a field day with his since we got him out of nappies, the early morning stiffy is always a bit alarming when your half asleep....we had a while of " eat your rice crispies"..." No I play with my willy!" in a most indignant tone. It's his friend for life!

LucyEllensmummy · 04/02/2009 07:50

THIS is one of the reasons i am SOOOO glad that I have girls!!

lifesaboxochoccies · 04/02/2009 12:10

pmsl at this thread!! ds is also a THAT AGE! (2.10) where he will sit with his hands down his pyjamas watching tv in the morning, he tells me at times "look mummy my willys gone big!" and i just say "put it away i dont want to see that!" the only time i find it truly embarrasing is when he does it when we have people round although hes realising not to do that so much anymore.
He also has developed a sense of humour and one thing he finds histerical at the moment is to say "you know what mummy?" pauses while he pokes his willy out over the top of his trousers "my willys hanging out!"

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 04/02/2009 12:14

God I'm naive - dh convinced me boys couldn't get erections until puberty. I'm one of 3 sisters and I have 2 daughter so the whole boy thing is alien to me. I'm pregnant now and have no idea what I'd do if it's a boy

BabiesEverywhere · 04/02/2009 12:22

I don't believe you, my sweet little boy will never do stuff like this

BabiesEverywhere · 04/02/2009 12:24

LOL, suddendly remembers DD delight (hers not mine) that she could shove various toys and food in her Fanjo. It was about that time that we made more of an effort to dress her for meal times.

Bubbaluv · 04/02/2009 12:38

babiesEverywhere, Be careful, I wrote something similar on a thread once and was told by ALL the other posters that I clearly must have been sexually abused. Hmmm, no, very happy childhood actually. I also liked to stick things in my ears. I tried to explain that at that age a hole is a hole (and should therfore be stuffed with lego) but was scoffed at!

BabiesEverywhere · 04/02/2009 14:00

Bubbaluv, Thanks for the warning I believe the same thing, a hole is a hole to a small child.

CaptainKarvol · 04/02/2009 14:09

I tell DS (2.11) 'jolly good, willies are supposed to do that, now put it back in your pants!'

His dad gets really annoyed with him though. Dunno what that is all about...

chuckeyegg · 04/02/2009 14:31

Thank you all for giving me a good laugh whilst eating my lunch. DS is 26 months and fasinated with his willy. His first word was ball his second willy. I think I know where his interests lie.
