I'm mum to a 6 month old little girl.
She's my 1st baby so it's just mummy, daddy & baby.

My fiance works 14 hr shifts & I've just started back work at a care home, but only 1 of us work at a time. We don't spend lots of time all together! =/

Our girl makes us so proud because she's always slept 8 hrs through the night, she is great when she's sick & teething, she's been feeding herself a bottle for at least a month she's always been such a character & we have so much fun... if we're all together.

When 1 of us is at work our baby becomes a bit of a nightmare because she demands the attention of both of us, it started with her screaming when we left the room, then it was just out of sight, then it was if you turned your back & then she topped it off by screaming like she was in pain when I TURNED MY HEAD!!!!

I do make sure that I play with her & give her attention but it's getting to the point where I don't want to start because she'll go nuts when we stop!
She doesn't often stay with other people because my mum has M.S so she's not always available & my partners mum is a busy woman!!
(and funnily enough my boss)

I don't know what to do but by the end of the day my baby can have me in tears & totally stressed or I'm really pissed off because she's giving me so much grief because Im not two people!!
When I go to work I have a day off!
And working in a care home... it's not the easiest job! So it shows my frustration!

Anyone had a similar problem??

Totally normal and it will get easier. Just try to be as present as you can when with her but take breaks even if she gets upset because a happy mom is better for all of you.

Hi there, really interested in this thread as conincides with concerns I have about my 8 month old. He is obviously a bit older ... I have just started back at work part-time. He is away from me with a childmidner 2 days a week and with his dad 1 day a week. He has started to be super needy - doesn't like me to leave him playing alone and cries when i walk away form him. The childminder says he is doing the same thing with her. He has had a long settling in time with her - a month of seeing her twice a week. I hope this is just a developmental thing which most kids experience. It is making me feel SO guilty as it feels like I've really made him feel insecure. Like you Crackerbean we are a family of three (plus cat!) and he has been used to being with me all of the time. I am not sure whether to cuddle him more to reassure him or give him a little more space to encourage him to enjoy life without me in tow! I am thinking maybe I have to let him a cry a little e.g. when he is on living room floor with toys and I'm at other end of the room - he tends to lie out flat and scream - obviously with lots of reassurance and talking to him?? But is this right?

No, she's not too attached, that's just how they are. It does get easier, but takes a bit of time. My daughter was like that, and now she's 2.4 (which I know sounds really old) but she's so friendly and happy to go to others, it really is worth riding this out and not forcing the issue

As someone else said, if it is getting too much you need to make sure you're getting enough time on your own - i found having a long bath on saturday mornings kept me sane!

my ds was very much like that - had to cart him with me to the loo and all (yeah, get ready for that - they like to sit on your lap )

he began to change around 18m and at 21m is MUCH more independent.

except when I go to the loo!

She is just realising that you & her are two beings, that she isn't part of you. This is a scary phase in her life & some of it may be seperation anxiety.

Totally normal! It will pass & does get easier.

I have this. dd is 7 months and very clingy, wingy and shrieky. It is wearing and is doing my head in but I keep repeating ''It's just a phase.''
