When did your dc's stop having an afternoon nap?

DD is 18months and has started to take ages to get to sleep during the day but still gets cranky and sleepy between 11-1.

She has missed a few day time naps or had late naps which I hate as it means she will be up all night. She goes to bed way too late as it is.

you must be very skilled to get them both to nap at the same time....

Trouble is, if you go too far, they fall asleep in the buggy or car, resulting in child who won't go to sleep in the evening and missing Doctors and the opportunity to eat without sharing.

I'm going to stay with naps until it warms up. DD is number 4 and I am SO over pushing small children around in plastic cars at the local One O'clock club.

dd woke up about 9pm and was sobbing if i put her to bed before me she always wakes up again it is terrible, that is why most of the time we go to bed together as she wakes up every hour when i'm not in bed with her... it took me ages to get her to sleepagain.

DD is three at end of Feb. We have just stopped letting her nap in the day - she wasn't getting to sleep until 9.30/10pm and we finally figured out that it was due to her sleeping during the day, so not needing to sleep at night bit dense I know!

The last week has been bliss - she's asleep by 8pm latest!

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2009 22:19

13/14 months. She is awake 7am till at least 9pm and is 20 months. She Does Not Stop.

newlysinglemummy · 30/01/2009 22:23

showof - that sounds like hard work, when she does finally sleep does she fall asleep alone or do you have to get her to sleep?

A mixture! Usually I do it though.

my dd is 17 months, and was sleeping for just under two hours roughly between 11- 1, and going to bed at 7.30. Just this week she has started to have a nap much later, at around 2pm. still going to bed at same time. I have been giving her a cuddle and dummy around 2, same as I used to at 11, and even if she didn't initially seem tired, she nodded right off like she normally does. maybe a cuddly toy might help at night?worth a try!

Both my girls still have a day time nap. They are 17mo and 3.2.

If DD1 won't go by 1.45 though, I won't let her at all because then she won't sleep later.

They are in bed by 6.30-7pm.

We used to all have to nap for an hour in kindergarten. Does that not happen in the UK?

newlysinglemummy · 02/02/2009 11:27

dd has a special blanket that she takes to bed as her comforter.

bubbaluv - dd is not yet at nursery or kindergarten.

Oh no, I realise that, was just saying that it was assumed we would all be having a nap at 4/5yo. My DS is still napping away and I had previously assumed this continued up to school days. Am clearly thinking wishfully

MegBusset · 02/02/2009 12:44

DS is 23mo and currently seems to be in the process of dropping his

He has been hellish to settle (1hr+) at both naptime and bedtime for about a week now. Trouble is, he is obviously still tired at lunchtime but just Will Not Lie Down!

Yesterday he didn't give in and sleep til 1.30 (had been in his cot since 12.30), I woke him at 2.30 and he was grumpy as all hell. I have no idea how he will make it through til the evening without the sleep, but spending an hour a day trying to settle him just isn't practical... argh!
