wave and say (actually say in an understandable way!) hello?

We were looking at a toy which incidentally has a little mirror so she could see her face smiling back, she then started waving and since her reflection was waving back she smiled and I said "hello".

Neverthless to say, my jaw dropped when she said back to me hello! and now this is her game- waving at the toy and saying hello!!!

She could only say mama so far and dada, but this is a whole new word and i didn't think they could so young, but then I don't know much about it!
Please come and tell me that it is either very normal or that I am dreaming it

When DD was 9 months she picked up DH's phone, put it to her ear and said 'hello?' in exactly the same tone of voice as he answers the phone!! And they do start waving at around that age, so no reason why she can't link the two.

Clever girl!!

I think if you've got a bright spark and you talk to them a great deal (and repeat stuff a lot) they can definitely end up surprising you! My 10 month old dd can point to various things when you ask her - light, picture, my nose, my eyes, my bellybutton, about 7 or 8 of her toys. She quacks whenever she sees ducks and does the fish thing with her mouth. She says cat, bir(d) and car! My dp tells me off for 'teaching' her all the time (I am a teacher actually) but I love it and I think/hope she does too.

Bless her, your dd sounds really cute!

By the way, sorry for the rather smug-sounding post. I didn't mean it like that (well only a little)

Aww she sounds adorable.

My DD said hiya and waved at 9mo, she can also point to my nose and stomach, she was a bit older when she started to point, about 10mo i think.

I was shocked as DS was alot later.

No idea if its early though.

It's very cute when they do that so young!

Dd could say hello and milk at 10 months. DS was about 18mo before he got to that level!

PinkTulips · 28/01/2009 13:27

dd said mama and pointed at me at about 6/7 months old (we were visiting pol'sand could say cat and dada a week later and point at them.

at 9 months she was definitely able to wave and say 'hiya'

thanks! I am feeling reassured now I am not imagining things!

Smallships - I too have a ds and he only said hello and waved when he was 15 months- that's why I was so shocked as I thought that 15 months was "normal"!

Guess "us" girls tend to talk a lot more and we beat the boys in how early too

Yes defo normal! My DD said "hiya" at a similar age - it was her 1st and only word until she was about 11 months.

My sisters little girl could say "cat" and "daddy" at 9 months too.

Agree it's very cute when it happens
