Does your LO get 'jealous' when you hold another baby/child?

I know 'jealous' is not the right word really, but didn't know how else to describe it.

DD is 19 months and the minute I pick up someone else's baby / child she gets very upset, cries, says "No! DD (her name) mummy knee" and tries to climb my knee and sometimes tries grab the other child

She isn't at all clingy normally, quite the opposite in fact. But I don't have any other children (God help me if I ever do!).

Is this normal? What are you supposed to do?

definately if I don't give her lots of attention while holding the baby. Natural really.

Yes. All of them to a certain extent. DS#2 is now 5 and stopped about 18m ago although he still gives me funny looks when I'm holding a baby.

So what do you do when they are like this?

I usually continue to hold the baby and try and reaasure DD, but she gets really upset.

My dd used to do this as well. Has grown out of it now and yes, tis totally normal. I used to handle it by putting dd on one knee and then both of us holding the baby together. Lots of praise about how gentle she is being also helps.

DSD used to do this but luckily grew out of it by the time dd arrived !

Perfectly normal I think

My dd was exactly the same at 18 months - she used to dramatically drop to her knees the lie face down crying when i held a baby. Now at 22 months she doesn't seem bothered at all - I just kept holding babies and trying to involve her, which never really worked coz she's just not interested, but she just got used to it.

These phases keep us on our toes don't they

DD2 (3) Gets very aggressive at bedtime when older DD(8) wants to cuddle up. Will push and shout at her sister. Feel really sorry for DD1 because she will just move away and give in. Think 3 is a little too old not to want to share her Mummy even with her sibling. She will constantly say 'it's my mummy not yours'

My ds was just the same and to sneak cuddles of new babies while he wasn't looking! When dd was bon he was 2.5 and never really bothered about dd. DD though is not happy if ds gets any sort of affection so spend alot of time cuddling both!
