Breastfed 8 month old waking 3 or 4 times a night

Help me mummys! My 8 month old is having a hard time sleeping in her cot. She cries when I put her in and wakes 3 or 4 times a night crying. I have been feeding her when she wakes, and that puts her back to sleep, but not for long. The most sleep I can get out of her is about 3 hrs...
Once we get to about 4am she refuses to sleep anymore. I have left her to cry, and earlier in the night that works sometimes, but by 4am if I leave her she simply plays loudly in her cot.
When I'm naughty and just want to sleep I bring her in bed with me where she sleeps like an angel....
What am I to do? I need a plan, and I need to stick with it.
Help anyone?

Hmm, I have no ideas, as I have a boy who does exactly the same. Very happy in our bed, but in own bed sleeps from 6.30pm, then wakes at 11, 2am and 5 am. What to do? I want him out of our room but don't want him to wake DD.

Sounds exactly like us! Hmmm, well if you get any advice let me know! I'll do the same for you

In your situation I'd happily let her sleep with you. It's not forever. When you're eventually ready to tackle the sleeping in cot thing, you can do.
I co-slept with my first baby (who incidentally now sleeps 12 hours in her bed happily) from 7 to 13 months. I'm currently co-sleeping with my DD2. She's 10 months and feeds about 4 times a night and hates her cot.

Thats reassuring gybegirl thanks! How was the transition for your 1st at 13 months? Did she go willingly?

co-sleeping is nothing to feel naughty about - if it works for you and you follow the simple guidelines, then just do it! (anything to get some sleep in my book )

It sounds like she just wants a cuddle, as she's ok in your bed, so try (if you can) to stop feeding her when she wakes up. Offer her a bottle of water and see how she gets on. You may find that she doesn't think water is worth waking up for.

Just to add (in case I sounded a bit unintentionally flippant). At 13 months I'd decided my DD1 needed to sleep in her own bed.
I weaned her off bfing her to sleep by lots of cuddles - when she was just awake and finished proper feeding I'd take her off the boob. It took a while...
If memory serves (probably not) night feeds then pretty much stopped but the waking up was still problem so I would leave her for a minute to cry in her cot, pick her up give her a big cuddle, wait for her to calm down and then once she was settled, put her in her cot (repeat 30x on night one). That bit took about a week.
I couldn't have done that process a day earlier as I was just not emotionally ready for it. Plus I thought at 13 months she was old enough to realise I wasn't abandoning her (probably makes me sound a bit barking ).
My main point is; it's not naughty to co-sleep. It's lovely. If it suits you - keep doing it.

Thanks gybegirl! Yes, I think perhaps it's me thats not ready for her to go to the cot, not her!
I think the breastfeeding is more important to me than the cot-sleeping, and I was starting to think I'd have to switch to a bottle of heavy duty formula just to get some sleep, but perhaps you are right and I should just enjoy the snuggles while I can...

DD did this at about the same age. In the end we resorted to a dummy when she woke at night which would do the trick till about 6 ish.
