10 month old throwing himself backwards???

LO just turned 10 months old and has started to throw his head back a lot and try to throw himself backwards. He does this sometimes when we lift him so it can be a bit dangerous. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help even though this might sound like a stupid question...

Our 18mo nearly flung herself backwards out of DH arms jsut last night!

He's just enjoying new sensations and seeing what happens when he does certain things.

Soon enough he will find out that when he throws himself over backwards it can hurt and he won't be so keen!

I the meantime i think all you can do is grit your teeth and try and catch him - although he is bound to come a cropper sometimes...

Don't worry though mine did this too

Urgh, my DS2 is doing this at the moment (10 months). His favourite trick is doing it when I put his coat on. It's like watching a wrestling match...I know it will pass as it did with DS1.

oh god, dd does this and has come close to headbutting the banister by just launching herself.

ilovetochat DD DID hit the banister when she was about 5 mo [shhhhhh]

Thanks. He finds it hilarious... for now!

Yep, my DS (also 10 months) does this all the time. Makes it very difficult to dress him!

ilovetochat · 23/01/2009 13:21

today dd stood infront of her change mat and instead of sitting down she just put her head back and fell backwards and banged the top of her head on the carpet, she screamed the place down but seems fine now, not sure if she learned it hurts or will do it again.

My 10 months old like to shake his head so violently... Is it normal too?

ilovetochat · 24/01/2009 14:46

yes dd does that but normally only when i have put her hair up in bobbles as she can feel them shake.

Hi Paranoid!

DS (also 10 months, if you remember) does this when he's irritated/frustrated. It's very annoying and a bit dangerous, especially when there is a hard surface behind him. I'm hoping it will stop, but I'm doubting it. He's also done the "I'm a plank" and slid out of the pushchair when I'm trying to strap him in. They are going through a wilful stage, I guess.

[pop over to March 08 and say hello!]
