As a parent would you want your childminder to do school reading homework ............

or would you prefer them to spend time doing what they want/different activities?
I CM and am torn between wanting children to enjoy their time with me and wanting to help parents by reading with the children.

Is it better to give children a break for a couple of hours and then read at home or do it with me before they get too tired to be bothered to concentrate?

I would want to the reading myself.

Thanks twinset, that would be mine as a parent too because I think they get too tired the later it gets.

I would want the CM to do the reading. By the time I got home it would be late and children would be tired. A bit of free time to unwind and then onto the reading / homework.

Yes I suppose it depends what time you get home, I am talking from the luxury of having dp at home.

When my mum used to have Grace she would do her reading with her most of the time.

I always do the reading homework as part of bedtime routine .... You read me a story and then I'll read you one. Can't remember having trouble with tiredness and, like twinset says, would want to be doing it myself.

What a nice considerate lady you are... I guess the best thing depends on the family routine. We were like robina, books at bedtime. Was a bit suprised when DD came home from a playdate, supervised by au pair, with homework and reading all done!

Some mums would absolutely love you to do it, I'm sure.

It depends on the family and the routine, I think. TBH if DS came home from (hypothetical - we can't find one) childminder with reading done then it would be bliss - it would mean we could do some more if we had time/energy, but would not end up (as tonight) giving up because he is just too tired and deciding to do it in the morning/not at all.

If you were my CM and you asked me, I would think you were an angel

It can be 6.30 by the time we get home so I would want all homework done before that. If I got home earlier I would prefer to read with them myself .

Taking into account what everyone has said I think perhaps the best course of action is do it 3 times per week after a wind down activity. My parents get home anywhere between 4pm and 6.30pm depending on their work, so if I do it 3 out of five it only leaves 2 nights for them if they are late, so not drastic if it gets too late iyswim.
I like to take them to the park if its dry to have a good play/run about and let their hair down and so don't always have time as he stays for dinner most nights too until 6pm.
Good to get everyones opinions though. Thanks
