I'm talking from lump in the gum to tooth fully through. DD has been teething these molars for over 5 months now. Three weeksago four big lumps came up in her gums so I thought they'd be through soon after. But no. She has half a farking tooth so far and no sign of the rest atm.

I seriously cannot take much more of this. I've only been able to doze for 5 months as she's restless, crying or feeding all night. Last week she had a couple of nights only waking up once and I thought it was getting better but the last two nights she has been up all night. She won't stop twiddling my nipple while feeding which is driving me insane, but she screams hysterically if I stop her. Basically I have reached the end of my tether. Don't get me wrong, she's a fab child but it's like she turns into a demon at night. I've tried all the pain relief but it just isn't working.

Oh second option - lie to me and tell me it will finish tomorrow! She's 17 months btw. Sorry if the post makes no sense, I am a walking zombie atm.

took a long while id admit seemed to take forever as each corner came through separately and took about 2 months in all so painful for the poor things i found bonjela cool great for them though

use nurofen not calpol as its not enough for teething nurofen was much better in alot of peoples and my experience find a chewy teether that she can really knaw on to help but its not nice for them it can take a while so i hope you manage to rest

5 months seems along doze to me lol

whoingodsnameami · 21/01/2009 09:42

I dont know when ds molars first started showing, but they did'nt come fully through til he was 5 years old, his gp was astonished, he did'nt cut his first tooth til he was 12 months either.

whoingodsnameami · 21/01/2009 09:43

Sorry dentist was astonished not gp.

I was lucky(ish) dd2 screamed blue murder for 6 hours solid

I considered taking her to A and E. She had showed no signs of teething, just started howling and wouldn't stop. Nothing or no one could comfort her.

After she stopped she had a tooth.

dd1 barely noticed her teeth. My neice was bad teething though. Can't remember how long it took her, but it was a while and she was whingy and irritable and suffered appetite loss.

My sis used Nurofen and Biccipegs along with frozen carrot sticks to gnaw on. This seemed to help her.

Bubbaluv · 21/01/2009 09:54

CharChar, I know exactly how you feel. DS has had molars semi exposed for a couple of weeks now. I'm knackered! He keeps getting terrible temperature spikes and that makes him vomit, and I'm just too tired to be very comforting I'm afraid.

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 09:55

Thankyou. I've been giving her nurofen and putting anbesol liquid on her gums too but it doesn't seem to help much. I'm desperate for a stretch of sleep rather than getting woken up all night. Last night she either slept with her head on my stomach or my knees and ended up on my shoulder.

Wow 5 years old! I hope DD's settle down before then. She started getting her teeth at 6 months but they've all been really slow to come through.

Luckily it never bothered him at all, in fact none of my dc had a single off day with teething

NimChimpsky · 21/01/2009 10:01

dd (20 months) wasn't too bad with the molars. She has been getting canines for 5 months though. 2 of them are through, the other 2 are still just angry, red bumps and while she tolerates it in the day, at night they annoy her rather a lot. She's a happy, placid, smiley child so doesn't get upset in the night really (doesn't cry for example) but wakes a lot and breastfeeds as much as she possibly can (seems to be the only thing that soothes it). Ice lollies help in the day but it's not really the weather. She also groans in her sleep and rubs her mouth.

Oh and the twiddling nipple. She cannot feed from one side without twiddling the other. I cannot stop her, she goes loopy. Sometimes I just cannot bear it and am so 'touched out' that I want to be left on my own with no human contact (poor dh). She absentmindedly starts tugging and twisting too and it's really quite painful.

2 teeth to go and hopefully a break before the next molars.

I don't bother with teeting gels as she just eats them. And trying to get any form of liquid medicine into her is like swimming uphill through custard.

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 10:02

xpost, thankyou God 6 hours screaming that must have been awful sssbts. DD lost her appetite too, she hasn't touched her breakfast this morning. The problem with giving her anything to chew on is that she only gets the teething pain at night. In the day she's quite happy. Sympathy for you Bubbaluv. DD isn't vomiting luckily, I feel for you. I'm not particularly comforting at the moment either.

Temperature spikes here too and when the teeth is having a real go at breaking through, the nappies are extremely unpleasant.

She spent last night with her head on my stomach!

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 10:06

Thanks. DD will feed without twiddling if I cover my boob in the day but at night she'll give it her best shot. It makes me want to shove her and DP away from me and go and sleep on the couch to get some space! I am waiting for the break between teeth once these are through too. I'm really looking forward to it

OP posts:
Watoose · 21/01/2009 10:10

If one is through you might be Okay.

Ds is the same - has spent last 5 months or so getting those nasty four molars in. One came in and the others were there within about a fortnight.

Now he has a canine coming instead!

I thought I must be doing something wrong, he has been using me as a dummy all night for months as well, am slowly losing the plot. Good to have some company!!

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 10:11

DD's nappies have been a bit vile lately. Just thought, probably some of this sleep disturbance business is to do with her speech which is really coming on at the moment. Gah, this child cannot do anything without having a load of sleepless nights!

OP posts:
CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 10:13

It's so nice to know other people are in the same boat It gets lonely in the middle of the night.

OP posts:
NimChimpsky · 21/01/2009 11:30

It all happens at once doesn't it? DD's speech has taken a leap just recently too. She even talks in her sleep (what little she has). She's gone from saying 2-3 words together to saying 5-6 quite comprehensively within a couple of weeks. She's also grasped his, her, mine, yours, they, theirs, is etc just recently so undoubtedly her sleep has been screwed up while she learns all these new skills.

Trouble is, even when she finally does fall asleep, I can't as I'm listening out for the next waking or I have her sprawled across me with her elbow in my ear and I daren't move incase she wakes up.

And people keep asking if I'm having another one yet. I don't know how I'd find the time and space to make one, let alone fit it in the crowded bed...

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 13:01

Yes, there always seems to be a big clump of things together that disturb them. I'm still waiting for the break in between though DD's gone from saying one word to 2-3 together, my favourite being 'Please can me..' plus whatever she wants, which is rather cute. She's also acquired loads more words for things. She talks all the time too as well as in her sleep. I struggle to sleep as well, it's hard not being able to get in the position you like and there hardly seems a point when you know you're going to be woken up again. DD's just taken an hour to go down for a nap. She kept hitting me and fighting the sleep but eventually gave up.

DP and I have been planning to ttc when DD is 2, but she'd better settle down a bit before then otherwise it'll be put on hold. I don't need 2 of them keeping me up all night! I am planning to get a king size bed though

dd got her 2 year molars when she was nearly 3 and a half and ds got them at the same time when he was 1 and a half, i had both of them teething at the same time for the same teeth, dd was ill with the pain it was horrid and ds came thru without much bother

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 13:14

Oh what a nightmare clayre, having both teething at the same time! I'm trying not to think of the fact that there's more I am pretending that these are the only teeth she needs! She looks so knackered all the time with bags under her eyes. She's asleep for now though.

Am watching this thread with horror!! My DD (2.6yrs) is just waiting for her final molars to come through - just 4 big raised lumps at back of gums at the mo. The horror is cos i'm due DC No2 in 4 weeks time - & i just know her teeth will come through just as LO is born. Cos that's the way of the world, isn't it . A lot of handy tips here, am off to buy some Biccipegs now!
Sorry to hijack OP, hope things get better for you real soon xxx

NimChimpsky · 21/01/2009 14:21

Two teething at once? Good lord. I'd be gnashing my teeth and wailing right along with them.

Get a king sized bed. Definitely. FIL built us one as a Christmas present and it's bliss. If dd does deign to drift off without being attached to me, we can retreat to the other side of the bed quite comfortably and actually get some sleep.

of the napping child. DD stopped napping at 14 months and is on the go all day.

CharCharGabor · 21/01/2009 15:06

It wasn't so bad last night as DP had a drink so slept in the other room. When they both snuggle up to me at night it gets a bit claustrophobic! I wish DD didn't nap anymore, it's getting ridiculous how long she takes to give up. I was in tears today by the time she finally dropped off. Hope your DD's teeth come through very soon for you caspercat.

it varies madly
my ds2 had all but his last 4 2nd molars by 13 mths
And never appeared bothered
Whereas my DD was months of agony...
