How often should I be brushing my ds's (2y4m) teeth?

DS is happy to brush his teeth nearly every day usually in the morning,he often refuses my help. He still has a lidded cup (to save my sheets)full of milk morning and night and is in a good bedtime routine, should I be making him brush his teeth after milk at night?

Twice a day, he isn't old enough to do it properly yet himself, and yes, you should do it after milk.

twice a day

2x a day, and you have to do them for him at least until he is 4 or 5 as he will not be coordinated or thorough enough. I still threaten my 11 yr old with assisted tooth brushing from time to time when hers look a bit manky.

dd is nearly 5 and i let her do it herself and then i go over to make sure its thoughoraly (thats my fifth attempt btw i obviously can't spell that word) done

Yes, twice a day and definitely after bedtime milk.

I only do my ds' once a day because it is far too traumatic for him to be headlocked and wrestled with more than once in 24 hours. I do make sure we do them every night before bedtime though and there is no way he could do it himself properly and he's 3.

Thoroughly

And twice a day.

Twice a day.

It's also about getting into the routine that will stay with them throughout life

i.e.
afer breakfast
last thing at night after any milk/drinks etc

When the DSs were very little and if they were sleepy etc I used to take the toothbrush to them in bed, and get them to spit out into a beaker, as I found the whole getting them up to go to the bathroom thing tended to unsettle them again.

I do it properly myself first and last thing in the day - I give her a special wooden egg timer to play with only at tooth-brushing time which she likes so much she opens up her mouth for a good scrub (I call it the tooth lady as the egg timer is "held" by a wooden lady).

Then after I've had a good scrub I give her the toothbrush to have a go herself so she learns (at 2.1 years, she sucks it more than brushes but she is beginning to brush - I ask her to brush so she hears it brushing in her ears - it works).
