So I tell her, someone who died a long time ago, they are buried in the ground ("Not berried!" she chirps. She is 2 and a half. Then she asks if she won't die, she says she will put some kittens in her magic wand and say abracadabra, and it will make her not die, never ever! And mummy won't die and daddy and little brother and grandma, and favourite cousin, etc. The we cross the road and she holds my hand tight for a change, muttering "So I won't die" (we have had stern words about that possibility when she has a silly strop next to Busy Road outside our house).
So, my question: as she is well into her fantasy Sleeping Beauty/fairy/magic phase and also quite questioning and observant, i.e. likes looking at all the dead animals in the museum (likes those) and dead hedgehogs on the road (doesn't like those), how should I play this? - should I just let her carry on wanting and making magic to not let people die/bring them back to life, or just play it straight and realistic? She even tried to revive Woollies ("Mmmm, mummy I will put a machine in my pink heart wand and say Abracadabra and then lots of kittens will be in there, and make it nice again"....as we walk past vast and sad looking woollies in our nearly derelict local town centre.
What d'ya think?
