Hi, I've got 2 boys, one 5, one 2 in a few weeks and I'd really like to get a couple of games that both of them can play together. They really enjoy Elefun (the one where you run around madly trying to catch little butterflies) but I don't know any other games like that. Any thoughts?? Ideally things that keep them active but I'd consider anything.

We've got a crocodile dentist game that is quite fun, although my nearly 2 year old doesn't really get the taking turns bit but he is OK with it - you press down the teeth and randomly one of them makes the croc's mouth snap shut which makes them jump. And my 4 year old thinks it is hilarious that it 'bites' them.

thegrowlygus · 22/01/2009 21:49

dentist Although ours didn't cost all that!

And it reminded me - they both quite like pop up pirate too, although again the 2 year old is more excited about pushing the pirate in and grabbing him than pushing the daggers in!

chewitt · 22/01/2009 21:49

hide n seek, balloon football/ balloon keep it up, hunt the thimble, pop up pirate/dragon

stealthsquiggle · 22/01/2009 21:53

Indoor games? My DC (6 and 2) play together with the play kitchen, DS's scooter, footballs, and endless pretend games with their respective cuddly animals. And duplo-type bricks.

babydriver · 26/01/2009 22:21

Thanks for these thoughts. Duplo and brio railway are indeed mighty popular here, but we have massive quantities accumulated from family and neighbours and don't want to add more! We had an ELC thing a bit like the pirate thing which DS1 really didn't get on with, but I like the look of the crocodile dentist thingy so that might well go on the list of DS2 birthday gifts - if I can find it at significantly less than 30 quid!!

my two are 2 and 5 and both like playing with those pop-up indoor tent / tunnel things. ikea do an igloo one i think.

um, bubble machines. lego, jigsaws, toy cars. play kitchens / workbenches etc. dressing up?

what is this elefun - sounds good - i am off to google it!

RiaParkinson · 26/01/2009 22:31

me too re elefun thing - what is it?

RiaParkinson · 26/01/2009 22:33

mixed reviews...

My dcs love all things Djeco

the games and puzzles are fabulous

ThingOne · 26/01/2009 22:35

A paperpod cardboard rocket/castle/whatever?

Dressing up stuff?

RiaParkinson · 26/01/2009 22:53

these are great

ChasingSquirrels · 26/01/2009 22:58

the discount warehouse in BSE (if anyone on this thread happens to live there) had cardboard shops like that for £8 I think this weekend.
fwiw my boys are 6.4 and 3 (tomorrow) so were 5 and 2. They have only just, very occasionally, started playing together. Mostly the 2yo just hits the 6yo or spoils his game or just generally annoys him, and the 6yo cries.

RiaParkinson · 26/01/2009 23:16

chasing squirrels lol at your boys

shame i have moved from the house where i actually used to chase the damn vermin off the lawn!!

my two - 6 last week and three in a fortnight do play well together

wind up torches FAB they run round the garden at night

trampoline ( in our cellar)

playmbile 24/7 any is great

they play these for hours

prams

dolls

wheelybugs (fab)

ChasingSquirrels · 27/01/2009 00:08

lol is not actually the thought that springs to mind when the 3yo casually sidles upto the 6yo and elbows him, and the 6yo yells "mum, ds2 hit me". I feel like saying "well hit him back", but know that I would be down on ds1 like a ton of bricks if he did.

stealthsquiggle · 27/01/2009 09:21

ChasingSquirrels my two are like that as well - 2yo (DD) will wind up / randomly accuse 6yo (DS) and he is more than likely to end up crying

2pt4kids · 27/01/2009 12:39

Hungry hippos is a favourite here.
My boys also loves elefun, monster snap, football (have a soft ball for indoors!)

MilaMae · 27/01/2009 12:51

RiaParkinson · 27/01/2009 17:07

Mila aren't they just lovely
so imaginative!

MilaMae · 27/01/2009 19:30

They remind me of the Chimp and Zee books.

ThingOne · 27/01/2009 23:08

I thought of another thing as I saw my 2.8 and 5.1 yr olds playing together this evening - a motorised playmobil crane. We were given it for Christmas a year ago and it has been played with nearly every day.

MilaMae · 29/01/2009 20:36

bump for r

babydriver · 29/01/2009 22:15

Thanks for all these other ideas - some of them look lovely. Playmobil stuff v popular here too, but tends to lead to major arguments as DS2 likes taking the hats off everyone and switching on the lights (we have emergency services) and DS1 hates it when DS2 interferes with all his carefully arranged people and it all ends in tears.
