just wondered what everyone else's kids do around the house at these ages?

What I'd like to know is what yours do around this age?

And do you give any incentives such as pocket money (for the older one!) or star charts etc?

am looking for inspiration to get everyone working together and making my life a bit easier!

I try and encourage DS (3) to pick up his toys and put them away (with limited sucess!).

He will help hang up washing on an airer and will take his plate through after dinner. He can aslo put items in the bin.

DS will put his dirty clothes in the wash basket and can select clean ones for the day and get his PJ's etc after the bath.

He still cannot dress himself but we are working on that.

I get him to hang up his coat and put his shoes away.

Apart from "helping" with hoovering or sweeping that is it.

5 year old dd1;

Loads the washing machine

Dusts

Cleans patio doors (she's the one that puts her hands all over them)

Helps wash up

Sweeps the floor

my ds 3.7 will put clothes in the washing machine attempts to hoover, will wipe table , put things in bin and will pick up his toys, helps me clean around the house

3yo DS: puts away some things from dishwasher.
5yo: can put away more from dishwasher, tidy up siblings' toys, help with jobs in garden, carry things upstairs for me.

Mine have to do jobs to get screen time, they won't do jobs for anything else.

They have to put away their shoes/coats to get their snacks etc., help from me, other nice things, anyway.

DDs are 3 and 6.

We don't have set tasks, because I'm rubbish at sticking to any routine. And consequently no star charts etc and pocket money is not conditional on jobs.

I ask them to help as and when I need help. That most often involves setting or clearing the table (both children), emptying washing machine and hanging up clothes. Tidying up toys. Hanging up their own coats, putting shoes on rack, bags tidy etc when they get in.

DD1 occasionally hoovers and sometimes puts clothes away. She sometimes cleans the bathroom sink which she seems to find therapeutic .

Both put dirty clothes in laundry basket at bed time, although they need some assistance deciding what's dirty and what's still wearable.

My 20 month old can help empty the dishwasher. She's rubbish at loading it though and when unloading I have to watch to be sure she doesn't lick the spoons before putting them in the drawer

Older childen should definately be able to put away clothes and shoes, fetch laundry from upstairs and generally fetch and carry imo. My girls can hoover and prepare their own packed lunches and breakfasts. My children's incentive to co-operate is that they don't snarled at then.

thanks very helpful! just wondering whether they should do more or not. I'm a bit haphazard, but generally get them to lay the table, clear their plates, shoes and coats and tidy toys. Also jammies under pillow is a new one with an aim to get the beds done too (ha ha)

Have to say my two fight about who does what and do delaying tactics which is why I wondered about the incentives....am sick of nagging for some small thing to be done, but don't want to do it all for them otherwise I'll end up doing everything....

DS (almost 3) loves loading unloading washing machine and dryer - not that I use it all the time or anything [ashamed of carbon footprint face] and using the dustpan and brush - although he tends to spread the dust around rather than sweep it up!
