I have an active ds(2yrs) who has the usual strops and tantrums. But until today I have felt able to cope with him. We have started to walk down from the car park which is a short walk from dd(5yrs) school where we go into the playground to pick her up. It all started there when he would not come with me to go to the reception pick up point so I ended up just carrying him over and seeting him down on the ground to wait.
Then when we were on our way back to the car park he refused point blank to come and just screamed and screamed. I ended up leaving him for a bit and walking away and when that did not work lifting/dragging him and eventually carrying him back to the car where I broke down in tears from sheer exhaustion.
Forgot to mention I am nearly 27wks pregnant.

I am so fed up right now I jsut don't know how to handle him. Was about to start a gm class with him in the morning soon to give him something to vent his energy apart from playgroups adn swimming.

Does anyone else have any other words of wisdom for the stressed mother of a 2yr old boy.

buggy, as lugging him around as you get more advanced is not good and he will have a choice of pushing, walking, riding.

do you have a lightweight buggy for him? When I go to get dd from school I quite often take the buggy along with me from the car park and if he gets it a strop or doesnt want to walk he then has the option of sitting in the buggy (or being strapped into the buggy by force if need be!!). That then saves me having to carry him kicking and screaming - he sits and screams instead

x-post but same idea!!

yes I would use the pram, I have a 3 year old, a soon to be 2 year old and a 12week old and for my sanity I use the pram as my middle one does this all the time.

With my DD2 (2) something to "distract" her works quite well,ie. if she takes her dollys buggy and doll, she tends to keep up and walks nicely with me,also a tricycle with a parent handle works equally well.

If I'm in a rush, she has to go in her buggy and lump it,she knows I mean business,so she whinges and stops quite quickly. We compromise in that she can walk back if she's good.

If my 2.8 year old is in a bad mood or very tired he does the school run in a buggy. It's a very short run for us and he can easily walk much much further but sometimes containment is the easier option.

But it can be really boring for them, so I'm not too hard on him.

Exercise is essential. We do lots here. Swimming, walking, parks, gym. Something every day, at least once. More often when weather less shit.

thanks for all your answers, I went and had a really early night last night as was shattered. Will try a mixture of them all I think, definitely back to the buggy for now though, cannot face another run like yesterday.
