How to entertain 6 month old- alternatives to 'jumperoo'...

....not sure this is in right place, but all help gratefully received...

my son is nearly 6 months old, and I was just about to buy him the rather expensive fisher price jumperoo thing(we have almost no useful doorframes in our house, so normal door bouncers are out), when I read some reviews saying that the bouncing action is not great for their spines/hips/etc. He's a very big baby so think that this might be accentuated in him...

Can anyone think of any alternatives? He is beginning to get bored of his playgym and bouncy seat etc. He can roll front to back, and sit for a while if supported. he likes to take his weight on his legs a lot, and in general is wanting more and more stimulation all the time

All tips on favourite toys etc would be very very helpful,

thank you

I thought someone would have been along by now and said TREASURE BASKET :-)
My ds LOVED his from about 5 months, and played with it until he was able to walk. I think it also encouraged him to learn how to play and discover things by himself, which gave me a moment to sit down and have a cup of tea!

Bit more about TBs here but am sure FrannyandZooey will be along in a mo with more suggestions...
HTH!

noooo don't get a jumparoo!!

a play mat with some toys on it and an arch over it are plenty. If he is sitting then a treasure basket will be fab but i don't know how to describe them properly so hope F&Z comes along soon!

my ds is almost 6 months and wants to bounce on his legs all the time which can be a strain on the old arms so we put him in his activity walker, he`s not quite figured out how to go forward in it yet but he can push back with his legs and seems to love doing this maybe you could consider one of these, ours was a present so not sure how much it cost but ebays always a good place for things like that, happy shopping

i got my jumperoo 2nd hand from MN and its was/is a godsend. i wasnt aware there were any problems with it. DS1 wasnt in it for hours on end and tbh just "stood" playing with the toys on it as much as bouncing.

we also had a mamas & papas sit N Step which he could sit in and play with all the toys.

i do second the playmat idea but i got old drinks bottles and filled with pasta and rice to make rattle bottles for a change in toys. also a wave bottle went down well (half fill a drinks bottle with water, add food colour and glitter, fill to top with baby oil and then superglue top on)

Graco entertainer saved my sanity between 6 and 12 months

We had a set of hat boxes (or just different size boxes) which we put different little toys into (is this the 'treasure basket'?) dd's would take out toys, put them back for ages. Otherwise it was just the usual, a ball (make that about 6 balls), stacking cups, a vtech noisy thing, a whacky thing with hammer and pegs (dd's just whack each other now).

Thank you all very much... great ideas - like the boxes (treasure chest) thing v much, though think i shall also get an 'entertainer': just perhaps not a bouncy one. And of course all the stacking stuff etc.

Maybe then I can get some work done!

THanks again
