Hi,

I didnt mean to make you worried! He wouldnt leave the bloody things alone! It was very embarressing in the doctor's, in church etc.

DS is 15 now.

We didnt use any medication. It was offered but it wasnt a route we wanted to go down. We felt environment was a bigger factor and this was bourne out when we managed to move. He did improve quite a bit although he was still a handful.

When I refused medication for DS they offered it for me! I can laugh now but at the time I felt I had to back off pretty sharpish. I did a lot of parenting courses to help manage how I dealt with his behaviour and that helped. He didnt have any learning difficulties and I think that helped a lot. You could always talk to him and his understanding was v.good.

He once emptied out the ENTIRE contents of his and his sister's room out the window. I mean everything. I had to troupe around the estate getting it all out of trees and people's gardens!

He is now a very clever, musically gifted smartarse. He still obsesses a bit and is totally unorganised. Never finishes a thing.

My ds is 21mths and also finds it hard to sit still. He will sit and concentrate on a book or drawing for ages sometimes, but usually spends all day running around, talks non stop, and can get very over excited at toddler groups.

Chegirl : Hope you don't mind me saying, but does your son also have some degree of Aspergers only I'm sure I read some of the signs over lap with adhd.

I think I need to worry less and enjoy ds more, hard as it is but he is my first and maybe I am worrying too much. Trouble is you can't help but compare, guess its natural.

Hi Cha1,

No I dont mind you asking. No he doesnt seem to have any degree of Aspergers.

If you dont mind me saying, I am not dismissing your concerns (had enough of that done to me!), but I would try not to worry for now.

At that age my son's behaviour would make your mouth hang open. It might be helpful for you to meet or see a video of a kid with ADHD. I wonder if there is anything on youtube?

Its hard to describe just how crazy my DS used to be. TBH I think I have wiped it from my memory LOL.

I have had two more boys since and they are typical little boys (if I can say that). Mad as hatters and all over the place but nothing, but nothing on their big bro!

Give it a while and maybe write your concerns down or film him? These things are useful if you do feel you need to consult your gp or HV.

I am trying really hard to reassure you but not dismiss you with 'oh all boys are like that' . How I hated that phrase!

Thanks Chegirl! What a great idea re video. Your spot on with everything your saying. I'll have a look around. I hope your "musically gifted smartarse" finds his way, he sounds like he should be in a music band and earning you a fortunee

Cah1 - be careful if you go onto YouTube and search ADHD videos - most are not ADHD, just acting like idots!!

chegirl · 18/01/2009 23:02

Good point Mission.

Hopefully there is something out there that will help.

I am holding out for mr smartarse to make me a rich old woman!

MY DS1 is very busy and although does show some of the signs that the replies with children with ADHD show, he doesnt have any developmental problems.

cah1 - i know its easy to panic when you have an active child. out of my group of friends, DS1 is the most energetic but its his age.

if you are worried, why not get your GP or HV to assess his behaviour

mrz · 27/05/2009 21:13

My son has never slept for longer than 20 mins at a time paediatrician said he'd seen worse wasn't diagnosed until 12.

Oh gosh, I was starting to feel less worried. The turning off the lights and taps is something my son likes to do and is always pointing at lights........when do you say thats obsessive though?

How old is your son now?

Hi any updates?
