Basically recently my DD (12 months) has started to take a long time to get to sleep during the day.

I put her down in her cot and she plays (quite happily) for about an hour and then falls to sleep.

However, I feel bad for leaving her in a dark room with just a few bears for comfort whilst she could be learning/developing down here.

However she does usually fall to sleep after this hour or so of down time, and does need the sleep.

I have tried keeping her longer so that she may go straight to sleep, but the same thing happen, it takes her a while to wind down in her room.

I feel bad because she is basically spending about 3 hours alone in her dark room, and only half or so of that is asleep.

But she is not crying, so is she fine?

Do you get yours up if they have not gone to sleep in X amount of time?

Feel really bad about it. Today it took her an hour and a half to get to sleep (which is about how long she sleeps for).

Thing is, she is tired. Downstairs she is rubbing her eyes and grumping, in her own room she suddenly livens up.

Even if I remove the bears, she plays standing up and pushing her hands through the cot bars.

If she is quite happy playing in her cot I would leave her...Maybe she is being stimulated too much and just wants a bit of relaxing play time by herself.
You shouldn´t be worried but happy that she able to go to sleep by herself and entertain herself!
My DD is the same

i found i had to change sleep times and my ds would only go down in the morning but actually dropped naps at 12 mths if i was lucky around 10 he would go down and would stay up from lunch onwards and go to bed around 6

my ds would also play in his cot and i would leave him to it

Well after posting this i went in to check on her (it had now been 2 hours) and she was wide awake, grinned at me and put her arms up to come out. She had not slept at all.

Bubblagirl, really hope she is not dropping her nap but its happened today.

I posted on here last week as if I dont let her have an hour at 930am then she is grumpy all morning, but let her have the morning and thats it until bed time?!!

Boy will either - amuse him self for a while till he goes to sleep or amuse him self for a while, then get bored and start shouting. If he does that I am pretty sure hes not going to have a chill out or sleep so I get him up again. If hes quiet I assume hes haveing some chill time and do likewise.
However his boredom threathhold seems tohave been lower than your DD he would do 30 mins or so before nodding off or shouting.

I might have to accept that my DD is a little monkey who simply does not like sleeping anymore.

Today I am not letting her have a morning nap and trying to keep her up until 1130 (as someone suggested) and hopefully she will have a good solid lunch sleep because she is one today (!) and its her party this afternooon
