Advice re cleaning dummy

can any of you lovely ladies help re dummies?

Do you know how long a dummy stays sterile for?

I have been cleaning it by pouring boiling water over it (as advised by my HV) however, i'm not sure how long the dummy will stay sterile for. I only have the one at the mo and and planning on using it overnight and wondered whether I need to keep going up and down stairs to clean it. Sorry to seem so thick.

Btw my DD is 2 weeks old, if this makes a difference.

Any advice greatly received please

Probably not what you want to hear but:
DS1 - had a few in circulation and sterlised them daily, kept covered in between
DS2 - sterlised when I remembered
DS3 - have sterlised it, I think, four times.....he is 4mo - no adverse effects as yet!

So, in summary, continue what you're doing, but don't worry about not sterlising it during the night (unless the dog gets it of course!)

well, once it's out in the open air it is technically not sterile.

i just washed ours in the dishwasher and then kept them in a plastic pot. a couple upstairs and a couple down.
then used them until they were dropped on the floor or something

I sterilise DS' dummies every day, but don't worry about them too much in between unless they fall teat down somewhere not very clean. Milton wipes are handy for giving a dummy a quick clean when needed.

If you're going to use a dummy at night for sleeping I'd recommend getting a few more. They can be a bugger to find in the dark!

And as I have four sons, AmIOdetteOrOdile, I can go one step further and say that ds4's dummy has never been sterilised and it gets a quick rinse under the cold tap if dropped on the floor!
emmanbubba, this is the sort of question you will look back on after you have a second child and laugh!

I'm going to second all of these and say that my motto is suck it and see!

AmIOdetteOrOdile and chipmonkey - glad to hear this is a normal hygiene progression, this is exactly the way it played with mine.

chipmonkey · 14/01/2009 19:38

Oh yes after 2, it's all the way down into slatternhood!

thanks everyone, bet she doesn't even use it after all.
