Poo retention

My boyo of 27 months has been pretty good so far about potty training. He is happy to sit on the loo (most of the time) and does a rather comical pee/poo dance when he needs to go, so he definitely knows when he needs to go. However, with the latter, he doesn't 'need' to go until absolutely necessary which is usually every 3 days. I am trying loads of water, oil, fruit, apricots etc. Also, he's not scared of pooing and happily waves bye bye to them as they are flushed. Is it just slow metabolism or is it something that will come - am trying to be very patient and soothing.

Also, on the weeing front, I try to ensure he goes at least every 1.5 hours or when the 'wee dance' commences, whichever comes sooner. There are plenty of drippy pants - again, is this something that will come - him being able to go in time without prompting, or am I being too pushy?

My DD is 30 months and has been potty trianed since she was just 2. She also witholds her poo. She went today for the first time in 10 days . She normally goes about twice a week. She has lactolose from the docs and this does help soften it and make it easier to pass.

Like your ds she holds it until she can do it no more and its comimg weather she likes it or not. Sometimes she will ask for the toilet or sometimes she will want a nappy. Like you we try not to make a big deal out of it and so we are happy to let her use a nappy.

I would say just carry on with what you are doing with being patient and lots of fruit etc. Before potty training my dd would go everyday without fail. I dont think its unusual for habbits to change.

Sorry i couldnt be of more help.
