DD is 19 months. she wakes up after her only nap (which I'm sure is too short at about 1 hour) and is just soooo miserable for hours afterwards. I can't put her down without her yelling, she doesn't seem to have any specific pain, she won't eat or drink I can't get her to sleep for any longer, she's clingy and shouty and it's very difficult to know what to do! It's been like this for months. any ideas?!

Oh wow - both my DD (17mths) and my 3yr old DS do this - or withthe 3yr old - did this. I did not realise was so common. Has worried me sick as could not understand what I had done/hadn't done for them to be so upset. Used to think must be bad dream but horrified that they could have had any experiences which would lead to this. Some limited success with milk/smoothies. My 3 yr old seemed to get worse the older he was and was a nightmare trying to comfort him while my DD would be clinging crying to my legs. Had limited success offering him things ge saw as real treats - chocolate buttons/ Ellie's fruit smoothies etc but had to vary so that it was a surprise. Other things that worked was carrying him outside into the garden (yes even in midwinter) - doing stuff to distract him. When he was younger would plonk him screaming into buggy and he would stop as soon as I left the house. Has resolved now as no longer naps - and little sister has taken over!

this is all really helpful and I'm reassured to know I'm not the only one! no one else I speak to has had this - the clinging to my legs thing is classic as I can't just sit with her while she gets over it (she has a brother too). I keep telling myself this is a phase but it is lasting longer than I expected.
