I'm sure he's got p[roblems with t he vision in his left eye so I got hima an appointment at the optician/optometrest(?sp ?what the diff is). She got as far as saying he had a turn in his eye but when it came to covering one eye for her to test his vision he had a proper strop and would not do it despite cagoling/bribing/stern words. Brought him home - sent him upstairs cause i was so angry wiht him! he was 4 in October - am i expecting too much to ask him to get his eyes tested? he'll noe need to go back to have the optician put drops in and check his vision!! dont know now how the hell thats going to work!!
Just needed a rant on MN - husband working overseas and friends at work!! feel better already!

I have a friend whose son did the exact same thing, so don't worry, all normal behaviour. Some children benefit from being more prepared than others. is here a book you can look at that will give him some idea of what to expect, or pretend to check a teddy's eyes or maybe just talk it through with him beforehand? good luck

i talked of nothing else this morning!! he loves peppa pig and in one of those episodes she goes to the optician so he knew what was going to happen!! he came home and had a sleep - something he's not done for ages! think maybe an appt first thing in the morning the next time would be good!!

hi my 1.5 year was diagnosed as needed glasses but they waited unti lhe could speak. And then waited for him to calm down a bit. He hated the specialist as they had to put a bottle of this horrible stingy liquid stuff per eye to dilate the pupils so they ccould have a look. We even got as far a prescription but couldn't get him into any optician to try on glasses. IN the end the hospital recommended a place and we got him to try on a pair - got him fitted and went for it. 2 months on he'll only wear them at nursery as he's scared of the teachers! We struggle at home. It took 6 months for them to be able to test his eye by covering each one - probably as he couldn't see out of his left eye so he wouldb't let them cover his right eye so they could check. A very good doctor managed to do this - but only for about 30 seconds!

Persevere - try and get a kiddies opticians - alternatively some of the hospitals have dispensing clinics and can help.

Very much empathise with you here.
