I think I need to go to mothercare tomorrow and get a bed guard. Any advice?

how old is she? I never used a bed guard - they v v quickly get used to the bed.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 06/01/2009 23:19

well it didn't upset her so thats good

but yes, it would be nicer if she could stay in the comfy bed, bless her

She is 2.3. Oh would be great if she got used to it her excema is going to be terrible if she ends up on the floor too much. I will see how the rest of the night goes I've put pillows on the floor but she was literally in the middle of the room and it is the biggest room(of two!).

Btw the bed has rails but they are only where her head is. Wish I'd checked in mothercare yesterday for bed rails when I got the mattress and bedding. Going to be a long few days if I have to order it.

DD had a Stokke cot. When she seemed ready, we removed one side and put a pillow on the floor in case she fell out.

That first night, when we checked on her, her head and shoulders were on the pillow on the floor while her bottom and legs were still in the cot (the base was very low down). It never happened again.

Why not try a few more nights before buying bed guards?

used2bthin · 06/01/2009 23:31

That is encouraging MsHighwater. I am not sure if I can take the missed sleep if she keeps doing it but would rather go without in a way not least because of the money I've already spent! Bless her she went straight to sleep in it with out me even staying in the room I thought it was all a bit too good to be true for the first night!

mine both fell out (or got out - ds1 used to sleep underneath his) in the first week or so.

modernart · 06/01/2009 23:35

Ah how sweet! At least she didn't cry. She seems chilled about it and will probably adapt very quickly

used2bthin · 06/01/2009 23:36

I am scared she will hurt herself but I suppose her room is pretty safe and I'd hear her anyway. I will put the stair gate up to stop her getting into the living room /kitchen(live in a flat)oh dear I feel like I won't sleep much whatever happens!

dont worry she will get used to it - they all do . Reminds me of the time that I walked into my DDs bedroom at 18 mths (she went into a bed at 15 mths as my SIL needed her cot back for her surprise baby! )
Anyway I walked into DDs dimly lit room and the bed was empty ! I totally panicked and ran shouting for my husband as she wasnt on the carpet either .
I burst into tears and turned around looking at the floor and then out of the corner of my eye I saw a cute little sleeping face peeking out through a pile of teddybears that sit in the far corner ! She must have fallen out of bed (in her grobag no less) and crawled over to be with her teddies and fell fast asleep again !

used2bthin · 07/01/2009 20:40

Oh babbi no how scary for you! It did cross my mind that I was glad to have seen her first rather than the empty bad. She slept all night long after that but still I thought I'd get a bed rail in case it keeps happening. Got one at mothercare then spent 40minutes with a tired grumpy DD while I tried to assemble it and failed. Then read at the back of the leaflet that its only safe if there is at least 25cms between it and the headboard to avoid strangulation???There is no space between it and the headboard at one end and between it and the mini rail thing on the bed at the other so a waste of £15 that was, and now I have to try and get rid of it too!

DS used to sleep on the floor for about 2 months after we put him in a bed.
He never fell out just used to get out then go to sleep on the floor, once asleep we lifted him back in and thats where he stayed all night.
grew out of it quickly, and now sleeps really well

MollyCherry · 07/01/2009 20:50

Have you still got the mattress from her cot? I just put that at the side of the bed for the first week or two.

used2bthin · 07/01/2009 20:58

nimwb I wondered if DD climbed out last night because we are in a flat and her room is next to where I was sitting and I heard nothing! Either that or she fell but didnt wake! MollyCherry no I hadn't got storage space for the mattress so it has gone already but I put a duvet by the bed to give her a soft landing after last nights adventures!
