I'm really in a quandry. I saw what she did and basically she had her waist halfway over cot top and a leg right over side. I caught her just in time.

Tempted to go online to IKEA now and order toddler bed (the room won't take a single). Am I overreacting? Would hate to wait and see and her to get injured.

We need the cot for DC2 due June but were trying to keep her in cot as long as possible shes not a great sleeper.

Mine fell out and I debated what to do as no rush for cot and it felt too young for him to go into a bed. The second time he fell out I ordered a bed that day.

You could try lowering it, personally I would get a bed though.

Mine was in a bed long before he was two as he's so tall and no longer fitted. He's a lousy sleeper too, but actually if anything he slept better in a bed. Go for it - got to be better than having a bad fall and if you've got another on the way, get her in way before, so you've time to sort any problems before you've got a baby to soothe too.

My DS did that when he was 18 months and DH caught him just in time. We went and bought a toddler bed. In the meantime you could try lowering the side of the cot so if she wants to get out she doesn't have to climb over it.

PestoMonster · 05/01/2009 20:26

Get a bed, and don't forget a safety rail. We also used the old cot mattress on the floor beside the bed, just in case our dds should fall out aswell.

mspotatochip · 05/01/2009 20:29

mmm unanimous votes! Thank you! The cot (Takeley mothercare) still has a fair drop when the side is down and won't stay up if we take the side off altogether. have also realised will need a stair gate for the door we live in a flat and I don't fancy her wandering into bathroom kitchen etc!

best get spending. looking at IKEA Leksvik extendable bed, bonus i can order online and don't have to actually go to the darned shop!

Get a bed and a stairgate if staying in her room becomes a nightmare, ( still in use with DD who is 3).

Also by moving now into a "big girl bed" there will be less of an assciation that she has been "kicked out" to make way for the baby....

mspotatochip · 05/01/2009 20:42

argge just noticed leksvik has no guard rail

Hi got the Leksvik and although it doesn't have a guard rail the sides are raised slightly near the head end. My DS went in the same bed when he was 2 and I put a duvet on the floor in case he fell out but he hasn't done yet!

elmoandella · 05/01/2009 20:46

babydan do a great bed rail for same price as the tomy one thats everywhere. but it's also a travel one which is fab!!

leksvik range is great as there's so many matching pieces of furniture that you can add on at later dates and the et will grow with dc.

mspotatochip · 05/01/2009 21:42

I ordered the leksvik! Arrives friday week, my gawd my babies going into a big bed! Going to order babydan rail and a stairgate separate from kiddicare. Now so long as she doesn't go climbing in the mean time!
