I have an eleventh month old and we really have a varied routine. It changes when she is teething and poorly (which she has been loads lately, colds, sickness etc) but roughly here it is;

3-4am - wakes for dummy and cuddle and nine times out of ten ends up in our bed
7am - 8 am awakes
4-6 oz milk
9am - breakfast
10.30 - 11.30 am 4-6oz milk
11.00 - 12.00 nap (between 1 and 1.5 hours)
12.30 - 1.30 - lunch
3 - 4pm - 4-6oz milk
3.30 - 4.30 nap (half to one hour)
5.30 - 6- tea
6.30 - 7 bathtime
7pm - 8pm (4-6 oz milk)
8pm - 10pm!!!! Sleep but only after really hard work to try and get her to go down.

DD is my first child and I work 4 days a week so am completely blagging the routine and not sure if I am doing it right - would love her to go to bed earlier - about 8pm would be great.

Would you to get ideas of other people's routines. I tend to be quite relaxed about routine and don't want an overly strict routine.

really does depend on the child (some children are really active at this age + seem to need more sleep, some prefer moe shorter naps, some prefer a big nap close to the middle of the day.

only advice i have is that late afternoon naps are not a good idea as there is not time for any proper play or activity between nap and tea so the baby has just woken up from her afternoon nap and she is already put on tea- bath- milk conveyer belt. - hence problems getting to sleep.

All are different but my 2 were roughly in this sort of routine at that age:

7ish - up, milk, breakfast
9-10 - nap
11-12 - lunch
12-2 - nap
2.30 - milk
4.30-5.30 - tea
6.30 - bath
7 - milk and bed

My biggest tip is establishing a good long after-lunch nap. This will carry on till they are maybe 3ish, and it is pretty bloody brilliant if you know you're going to get 1-2 hours to yourself every afternoon. DD2 is now 2 and still will have 2 hours. I generally put her to bed around 1pm now but never let her sleep past 3.30pm otherwise we'll have problems at bedtime, and then also waking up during the night.

thanks everyone.

It's for my mindee btw, obviously he's been off over xmas and come back and is so much bigger I thought it was time for a look at how he should be moving along now as he's pretty much had the same routine since he started a few months ago and I know at this age they do move quickly.

My DD is 10 months. Her routine is-

1am- 2am- Breastfeed. Lately she has stopped settling back in her cot after this feed so ends up in our bed!

7am-8am- Breastfeed

9am- Breakfast

11.30ish- Lunch

12- 2.30pm- Nap in cot

Sometimes breastfeed on waking but sometimes she's not interested.

4.30- Tea

6pm-6.30pm Breastfeed

7pm- Bed. She always goes down well in her cot at this time.

Ours went something like this at that age:
7am - wake up, milk, me & him get ready together
8.30ish - breakfast
Clear up breakfast, playtime
10am - nap, usually for approx. 1 hour
11 or 11.15 - wake up, possible drink & snack if he seemed hungry or lunch was going to be late
Playtime/going out
Lunch sometime between 12 and 1.30 depending what we were doing that day
2pm(ish) - big afternoon nap, usually around 2 hours
4pm - wake up, possible snack/drink
5.30-6 - tea
7pm - bath, BF then bed around 7.30-7.45.

BUT DS was quite flexible so this often varied a lot especially if we were going out, meeting people etc. - some days he would have much shorter morning nap or none at all for example, but then might need to catch up the next day or later in the day. He also seems to like lots of sleep, many of his friends were napping quite a bit less at that age I noticed.

DD 11 months

630am wakes, milk, toast.
930am try to get her to have nap, 50% of the time she refuses, other times she will have 45 minutes.
12 - lunch
1-230/3pm - nap (always a minimum of 2 hours if no morning nap)
3pm water, snacl
5pm tea
6pm bath
630pm milk, bed by 7pm

ohdearwhatamess · 05/01/2009 16:12

Ds2, 10.5 months, does as follows:

6-7am wakes. Is ignored (unless crying) until as close to 7 as possible, entertained by ds1.

7 breakfast - 200ml milk (6oz?); weetabix or oatibix with more milk and fruit.

9-9.30 naps (time varies according to when he wakes first thing)

11.30 - lunch. No milk, just water

12/12.30 nap. Lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

mid-afternoon offered cow's milk in cup. Doesn't drink much of it.

5.30 dinner - eats heartily.

6-6.30 bath etc

6.30 milk - usually has about 150ml.

7pm sleep.

Is it only my baby that wakes and immediately screams to get out of bed? I am very jealous of those babies that can be left a bit.

meandjoe · 05/01/2009 20:22

my 17 month old still usually wakes up screaming pamelat!
