Please help. 13 mo old boy keeps hitting himself in the head with his toys, hits me and others with his hands and toys and throws his toys everywhere all the time.

I need some advice on how to deal with the behaviour. Shall I tell him off or am I better ignoring it. When he hits me or his sister I pick him up and sit him on his own away from us but then he has a paddy and throws himself on the floor. He always laughs when he does it and if i ignore him he carries on. i don't like to shout or bark 'No' at him. I am sure it is just a stage but I don't want my reaction to his behaviour to affect him negatively in the future. I never had this with my daughter so maybe it is a boy thing. It is unnerving when he sits there hitting himself with his toys - is it boredom, frustration, something else - ideas????

Any advice or experiences please

my ds is just the same, i just calmly say 'no, we don't hit- it hurts' then distract him, sometimes he carries on so i move him away or walk away from him, he then throws himself down and cries. i ignore him til he calms down and then give him a cuddle then distract him with something else. imo, the less attention whether negative or not he gets for this behaviour, the better. just try and distract and move on from it, don't dwell on it or try and tell him off for it, he really has no idea that it hurts you. just ignore as best you can whilst gentley telling him it's not the right thing to do. it's hard going though!!!!
