So DD has toddler diarrhoea, anyone about with any experience?

DD is 2.6 and we have just come back from the GP having been told she doesn't have a food allergy, which is great, but she does have toddler diarrhoea. I have been given a factsheet and I know that she is not to have much juice which she didn't really anyway so will drop it altogether as she is not fussed.

The only thing I am bit confused about is the fat and the fruit. She eats alot of fruit, fresh and dried, because she loves it. Now the factsheet I have says that she is to keep having fruit for the fibre, but how much should she have? I think she has too much if I am honest, but she will choose it over other snacks. I'm abit stuck for other easily portable snacks for her, any suggestions?

Also with the fat, I'm finding this hard because when she was 6 months, she was 98th centile for height and weight (and still is). The HV at the time told me that I was plainly giving her too much fat to eat and although I know this was complete rubbish, it now remains one of my hang ups that I will make her fat. To be honest, I think that her diet has been too low in fat (which has contributed to the toddler diarrhoea) because I have had in the back of my mind that they will think I overfeed her still. So how much is she supposed to roughly have?

Also any other tips/experiences welcome!

We had to cut out some of DS's fruit when he had this - he also loves fruit adn he was eating a huge quantity. We had also switched to white bread, etc, to try and get rid of the diarrhea but it turned out that we should still have been giving him wholewheat! For snacks try peanut butter sandwiches, the various organix corn snacks, breadsticks, one portion of fruit.

You need to get over your low-fat hangup. Seriously. If she's 98th centile for weight AND height, she is at the perfect weight for her. Toddlers need fat. They need the concentrated energy it provides. They need it to keep growing those brain cells. let her eat until she is full - don't encourage her to clear her plate, don't nag at her to eat. Then it isn't a matter of 'overfeeding' her but rather of allowing her to learn how to control her own appetite. Which is, in my view, one of the greatest life skills you can give her. (Sorry - this is one of my pet rants! We always had to clear our plate and I'm now at 41 trying to learn how to listen to my tummy and not my eyes when deciding whether or not I'm hungry.)

Thanks Corriedale, some good snack tips there, I will add to my shopping list. I hadn't even thought about the bread, because we always have white because I can't stand wholewheat bread.

I completely agree with you on the eating when hungry and until she is full. Despite my slight worry about too much fat, she is given food when she asks for it (she has a frannyandzooey snackbox, filled at the start of each day which she has free access to and free access to the fruit bowl)and I have never made her clear her plate or eat anything she doesn't like, provided she has tried it! It is more that I think I might have overdone it on the fruit and veg promotion and I don't want to now overcompensate.
