DD is 11.5 and all she seems to want to do is play on her computer, listen to music or read.

Don't 11 year olds PLAY with toys anymore?????

Mine still plays. Though she is often glued to her DS.
She is currently snipping away at this, you can get it cheaper on amazon by the way
She makes things for the cat. And they produce plays that I have to watch.

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2009 20:41

Sounds normal to me for that age, but my DD isn't as old as that yet.

What would you want her to play with - Apart from lego, mine don't really play with toys as such. Maybe board games. Lots of sporty activities too.

wangle99 · 01/01/2009 20:45

I don't know tbh but I'm sure at that age I was still playing with Sindy, lego etc

Just feel she is a mini teen already and we've got enough of those years to come!!!

She does read alot which is good.

Oh we went through making stuff for the cat phase too!!!!

DD had that fashion book last year I think for birthday present - was pretty cool but she wanted to be a fashion designer then. Now she wants to be an architect!

No they don't play. Wait until she's 13. I have to beg my dd to get vertical these days.

janeite · 01/01/2009 20:46

Today mine has:
Watched "The Golden Compass"
Read a Famous Five book
Made a teddy bear out of felt
Drawn a picture and started to write a story
Eaten lots of Christmas chocolate
Lolloped around sucking her thumb
Had a bath
Played on her DSSpoken to her friend on the phone
Helped me make lunch

She has got the book that UM linked to as well, although I don't think she's used it today. She doesn't play with toys much but does lots and lots of "arty/crafty" stuff.

My 11 yr old dd, reads, watches tv, plays on the wii or ds or sits drawing/designing things at her desk.

Mind you she did buy a scooter with her xmas money and has been whizzing up and down my hall on that all day.

In warmer weather she will mess about outside with her brother and sister and go on the trampoline.

LovesTents · 01/01/2009 20:52

My 12yo dd doesn't play anymore although yesterday she wanted to play 'spa' with her cousin in the bathroom, she seems to sit around reading , listening to music, doing her nails, looking in the mirror, sulks quite a bit and snaps at younger siblings- what a delightful child

wangle99 · 01/01/2009 20:54

Ah yes now thinking of other things DD does (including looking in mirror and snapping at younger siblings!).

I think over these holidays she has been doing more listening to music, playing video games and I had forgotten the other stuff she does!!! She is growing up waaaay too quickly though

Oh my dd does loads of looking in the mirror and anything else that offeres her a reflection.

janeite · 01/01/2009 21:06

Tbh I don't think my dd ever looks in a mirror, or brushes her hair! Although her 13 year old sister more than makes up for it!

UnfortunatelyMe · 01/01/2009 21:16

No my dd hasnt got into the mirror/clothes/image thing yet.
She likes to be comfy, which leads to a very chavy look of tracky bottoms and hooded tops.

janeite · 01/01/2009 21:17

Lol - mine seems to live in jeans, a fluffy jumper and a dressing gown.

She has, however, become quite good at snapping and griping, unfortunately.

castille · 01/01/2009 21:24

Mine likes the PC, the TV and her DS, and she spends a lot of time in her room cutting things out and making folders and scrap books of pictures her favourite things (animals, mainly)

But she still plays with 9yo DD2 and 2yo DS too. I get the impression she likes an opportunity to play, and younger siblings give her an excuse to be a child rather than a pre-teen.

It's tough knowing how to be at that age.

christywhisty · 01/01/2009 22:27

Today DD has

given her guinea pig a bath

read and listened to Britannia High in her room
played Animal Crossing on DS
went out to her friends for few minutes to drop off some games

played Animal Crossing on wii

Spent most of the afternoon on the phone to BF discussing Animal Crossing (we have Wii speak but BF doesn't have it yet)

Had a row with BF over Animal Crossing on DS

Read some more and watched some TV at the same time.

She lives in her hoody with a guinea pig on it.

She never looks in the mirror but we did her nails tonight in dark blue.

She is also grumpy and her and DS 13 do manage to wind each other up.

mumeeee · 02/01/2009 21:49

Sounds Normal for a 11.5 year old.

NotBigJustBolshy · 02/01/2009 21:52

Guinea pigs need baths? (revelation)

christywhisty · 02/01/2009 22:52

They only get bathed every few months, one is a peruvian long hair and the other has long back hair, so it does need a clean occasionally.

christywhisty · 02/01/2009 23:23

Sorry that was describing the guinea pigs not my 11 yr DD Who incidently managed to spend all afternoon with her friends then come home and spend another hour on the phone to one of them when she got in

NotBigJustBolshy · 03/01/2009 10:59

Well thanks for clearing that up . I have a 10.5 yr (dd not guinea pig) who spends an awful lot of her time on the computer (talking to friends), on her nintendo ds or staring in the mirror. She does also love to read, but I'm a bit depressed by her reading matter of choice (endless Jacqueline Wilson or Cathy Cassidy books, despite my trying to entice her with various other things).
