Does your child discuss what they did etc in nursery?

My ds is 3.7. He attends nursery for 2.5 hours, 4 days a week. I always have to ask him what he has done that day in nursery. He does tell me bits and pieces but not much. I feel if I didn't ask him he wouldn't say anything at all. He really enjoys himself and as far as I know is getting on fine. Just wondering if your children tell you about what they have done?

My 5 year old is now in his second year of big school and still tells me he's done 'nothing' or 'can't remember'. Also who he played with, often 'nobody' which is nonsense as his older sister always delights in pointing out - she tells me more about what he's done than he does

LOL Ghosty I also have a train track lover. Last week he played with "Duck" he also brought home a painting that wasn't all black, but guess he didn't notice doing that. Occasionally we hear that someone "cried", too. That's about all.

Ds (at 5.5) tells me very little too. I've tried that tip, asking 'what was the best bit of your day?' and 'what was the worst?' instead of just 'how was your day?' but I still get very little info. Sometimes he says 'it was all terrible and boring and Mrs x beat me' and gives me a sideways smile at the same time - I know it's all made up and he knows that I know etc. Sobernow and KMG, I think your tales sound lovely - long may they continue to have such wonderful vivid imaginations! Wherever they end up, they'll never be bored while they have such rich inner lives

THE TIP THAT ASKS ABOUT BEST PART OF THE DAY THEN WORST PART OF THE DAY REALLY WORKS FOR ME IT IS WORTH A TRY I DONT EVEN HAVE TO ASK NOW I JUST GET TOLD

Maudy · 24/03/2003 09:26

HA Ha Batters ...I think that is hysterical, Big Brother eat your heart out. What a good idea, a video link straight to your computer at work (or home)so you can watch the little monkeys all day. Can you imagine actaually getting any work done!

dd talks in negatives.
me : what did you do at croligean today (croligean = gaelic for nursery)
dd : no painting
me : well what did you do
dd : we didn't have any playdough today
me : did you go outside
dd : we didnt go for a walk

I have to work it out from that!

My ds is 2.5 & always says 'don't know' when asked if he had a nice day at nursery. He also always has 'chips&fish fingers' for lunch too!

I find it works best to ask 'direct' questions like: "Did you go out in the garden 2 day?"
"Was Joe Bloggs in 2day?" or "Did you play with Amy 2day?" etc..

Hope that helps..

Some days he tells me everything - the other times it's:

Did you do any painting?

No.

Did you do any cooking?

No.

Did you play with the trains?

No.

Did you do anything?

No.

Did they give you any lunch?

No.

Did they stick you in a cupboard under the stairs?

Yes.

I think he's joking.

I usually get one of 'nothing', 'don't know', or 'forgotten' from dd, 4. Sadly ds, 2, is now copying her so I haven't a clue what they do all day!

Just wanted to weigh in and ask if he enjoyed the pirate dress up haha! Came across this thread Googling why nursery kids claim they did nothing at nursery when evidence is to the contrary, saw this thread and thought omg that child will be like TWENTY THREE NOW and thought it’d be fun to reach through time 😂
