Is DS2 exceptional, or DS1 unusually poor,

or do I just have to accept they're different?

FC sent each of them a lego bionicle. DS2 (age5) has sat for just over an hour this afternoon and made his, following the instructions, completely on his own, with no help at all.

DS1 (age7) tipped the pieces out of the box, put about 5 together (asking me if each was right/what do I do next between each piece) and then gave up and moved on to the next thing for, Oh, about 60 seconds.

DS1 is bright and reads exceptionally well for his age, but trying to keep him focused on anything for more than a few minutes is impossible. DS2 is also bright (as above) but still can't read at all!

Accept that they are different. When you have one child who seems especially gifted, the second child can pale into insignificance. But in isolation, they would be 'normal' (hate that word) and it wouldn't cross your mind to think otherwise.

they are different. And interested in different things - I'd never have had the patience for a bionicle even when I was five.

Thank you - I knew that was the answer really didn't I?! just can't get over how different their abilities are, despite the fact that they are both obviously reasonably bright.

I'm the same though mine are only 3.10 and 2.5. DS is very obviously smart so it is hard not to compare them too much, they are so different!
